can any one give me ideas for good places to stop and check for info and equipment that is a great place to start getting ideas for my layout please lt me know the best places.
the areas that i will be are Ogden, Salt lake city, Orem and willing to stop anywhere inbetween.
Maybe using Yahoo Yellow Pages do a search of those cities using “hobby” and “train” in the search subject, then call and inquire to what they stock. Some entries have website links attached.
Otherwise maybe someone here who lives in Utah can give some good references. Good Luck,
Since it states looking for ideas and equipment; presumably to begin the planning and process of elimination, What’s wrong with picking up several issues of Garden Railways Magazine to peruse???
Local hobby shops are a dying breed, I’m afraid. My LHS in Carson City folded a couple years back and, aside from Reno Rails, the other LHSs in Reno carry very little G scale stuff. The internet truly is our friend, but it’s the LHS’s worst enemy.
You are going to have to keep driving about 500 more miles to Las Vegas, then you can stop at the new ST Aubin trains just relocating by the airport in Vegas. I have searched up and down the washach front for Large Scale train stores with no luck. There are a couple of Utah guys that post on these and other forums who may help you, but as mentioned otherwise, start a web search.
Hi Im new to this G Scale. I also live in the UK and I also find shops hard to find. I am visiting Minneapolis St Paul and cannot find a good G Scale shop in that area. Buffalo seems the nearest so will definately visit this retailer but I find it difficult to believe no other shops exist in such a large city. There seem so few retailers in G scale and it seems dominated by them. Price is paramount to us all but when these dominant retailers crush the small boys then prices will rocket. I have found in my visits to L.A. shops they are almost terminally wounded by cheaper internet prices. Ok this is capitalism but as the price of track goes through the roof this is communism people on working all day on a bowl of rice. Kinda Panda justice. My track site is inside my 5" railway visit it at brenthouse.co.uk. Hey just tried hobbyretailer.com more shops appear than I have time to visit. I shall ring them all to see if they stock G Scale from my hotel before I drive there. Will add photos as railway is built but meanwhile enjoy the ride around on an 1" scale train . Keep them trains rolling Huddy
