Hey I just bought a Hobbytown of Boston chassis kit for a GP50. I was wondering if anybody else has had experience and tips on assembling these kits. Thanks

Thanks Scratch for the welcome it’s good to be back on the forum after a month off. I did a little more homework and I found the website for Hobbytown of Boston http://bearlocomo.zoovy.com/. I hope very soon to start to posting my progress on the locomotive here on the forum.

I haven’t built a Hobbytown drive in years…I do urge you to take your time to insure everything operates smoothly.This of course will give you a very smooth runing engine.

I never built one but a college roomate built one back in the 60s that would trounce any of my brass steamers in a tug of war. Take care and you will have a excellent running locomotive.

Has anyone had any success in mounting the Stewart RS3 bodies on Hobbytown drives?

Good Morning:

I’ve got a boko of Hobbytown E-7’s and they are very nice engines and will pull the pants off any other engine. I don’t know if you’ve got a six wheel truck or 4 wheel truck as I don’t keep up with locos after E-7 vintage. If you have a six wheel truck and you make the center axle a drive it will derail. I don’t know why, I just do. (Let me stop singing.)

On the OLD ones when I burnished in the wheel bearings and helical gears with Jewler’s rouge (using a electric drill for 2 1/2 seconds) - then cleaned it out, It ran like a champ.

The correct orientation (seating) of the tower gears to the chasis is a critical adjustment.

Wow! I never knew HTB made a GP50. I though the latest model they made were F units and SW1500s.

What I am building is a HTB universal chassis made for all Geeps.
