Hold that T1 !

Well get rid of that CCCP and wow this is the real deal. Jones is having a fit about now.

Failing that here is the next generation of steam that will totally vanquish Diesels.

Come on man!

  1. 4-6-4+4-4-0 ??

  2. 6-6-4+0-4-0 ??

  3. 6-4-4-0+4-4-0 ??

Anyway Diesels have met their match. Revenge!

I’m Miningman and I approve this message.

I am not a junkie, but I believe in this universe, there is another planet which is 100 times bigger and 1000 times more interesting than this planet earth. You will find tons of mile-tall tower in the metropolis, three-story-tall steam turbine streamlined engine pulling hotels on the wheels, A.I creating new sounds, stunning music, new poems every 5 mins, a completely different economic system that actually allows creative and beautiful things to become part of people’s daily life, and let them last almost forever. People live much longer, healthier, and happier because this planet is not perfect but full of love.

It’s the magic of steam baby! Some say it’s dead, but it won’t stay buried!

I’d be perfectly happy with the recreation of hundreds of these:

and

and

but I cannot complain, having this:

More of course at the Self site. If you’re going to post unhinged steam, here is the fountainhead.

We’ve discussed the Colani locomotive here before. As much fun to engineer as a Frank Gehry building, and about as rewarding. Wheels cambered like a carving track car… or a racing wheelchair. The very devil to quarter, or suspend… of course an artiste is not concerned with these minutiae.

Mod-man, I clicked on that link.

OK. Uh, whatever “pharmaceuticals” the artist happens to be using do you think he might pass some around so we can all feel good? [:-^]

Well I knew that would flush out Overmod ( just for fun) but I luv that tender!

Also consider this regarding steam. Oh I know the technical economic answer/reply but I’m talking about the human experience, the contentment and what’s right for us.

Apply this to all steam. The long lines of scrapping in the late 40’s and all the 50’s.

And why? In my gut, I knew the answer: just because they could. Just because there’s a bunch of people out there who always assume “change” inevitably equals “progress”. Just because Planet Earth seemed to have some stupid law which said, “if it’s great, they’ll stop making it”. (And by the way, supposing no one else has ever come up with that last bit, I immodestly propose to dub it “Bachman’s First Law of Commerce”

I’ve gotta go with David on these, those Mighty Class J’s, that awesome big New Haven GE, and that oh-so-cool Electroliner!

A personal note: Not long after we moved to Virginia in October of 1987 there was an ad in the local paper for an upcoming NS Steam Program excursion and the locomotive pictured was 611. Lady Firestorm and I were both shocked, we didn’t think any classic steam streamliners like that existed anymore! Money was tight after the move so we couldn’t go, but as soon as we could, we went!

Lady F still refers to 611 as “My engine!” Art Deco and steam, how could she resist? NS killing the steam program in 1994 brought out a rage in her that’s yet to dissipate!

PS: Obviously that trolley’s not a Brill, but I suppose it gets the job done.

And how! Anyone besides me remember “Milk Shake” candy bars? Or Shofar “Kosher Deli Style” hot dogs? Or “Trapper” beer from Saskatchewan? Gone with the snows of yesteryear. Why? [:'(]

Cool! Henry Dreyfuss meets high-speed rail!

By the way, anyone seen the new “Acela” yet? Ug-leeeeeeee!

All too often, dog in the manger. Look at American Snowmobiler. Why not give the IP to anyone wanting to continue the community? Nooooo… it’s “I owned it so I can do what I like with it” and our ‘team’ can’t make enough of a buck so we quit. We almost had Coca-Cola shoot itself in the foot trying to be Pepsi in the '80s; we saw McDonalds get rid of the backbone of its actually ‘fast’ food provision by trying to be Burger King. The list of good, but orphaned candies is terribly long.

On the other hand I tracked down good old-fashioned birch beer yesterday and – whaddeya know – after 56 years it’s still just as good.

It’s also important to remember that NOTHING lasts forever, including us. I would like to have seen BRC continue to operate its Alcos (6 C424’s and an S6) but it didn’t happen. BRC is still a fascinating operation.

Well I know I’m not gonna live forever, fact of the matter is I wouldn’t WANT to live forever given the choice.

But damn it, “Milk Shake” bars did NOT deserve to die! [:(!]

Neither did Shofar hot dogs! [:(!] [:(!]

Milk Shake was a product of the Hollywood Candy Co, that was taken over by Leaf Candy Co. in 1988 which was then taken over by Hershey in 1996. The ‘Zero’ candy bar is one of the Hollywood products that is still in production by Hershey.

Yes I know. Here’s the thing, the “Zero” bar is still in production, the “PayDay” bar (which I LOVE) was a Hollywood Candy Co. product as well and it’s still in production, so why in blazes didn’t Hershey continue with the “Milk Shake” bar? It’s not like they had anything similar in the product line.

Well, as the late Robert LeMassena once said, and not concerning candy bars…

“It may not make sense to you, but it made sense to somebody!”

Hi Rebecca

Cute … uhm … if only I got an idea of what it is?

=J=

My idea for what a monorail might look like in a steam-themed amusement park. [;)]

Hmm, lemme see here…

“Steamland?” “Steam City?” “World O’ Steam?” “Land O’ Steam?” “Boilerville?”

Oh, the possibilities!

Actually, there is a really, really good design for a steam-powered monorail (using modern European design and construction of the power machinery) that was propounded by Andreas Schwander a few years ago. We had pictures in the steam_tech photos section, but that is alas! long gone. I will have to see if he can provide a link…
