Holgate and Reynolds

On 24 Jul 2005, dehusman responded to a question about old sidewalks on this forum, by suggesting Holgate and Reynolds sheets.
I spent a couple of hours last night trying to find their website, or any reseller’s website showing these sheets, with no luck. Can anybody help?
Thanks-

Holgate and Reynolds is still around; I do not think they have a website though.
Holgate & Reynolds: 1007 Midway Road: Northbrook, IL 60062: 847-498-2753 …
I know their double deck commuter car kits in HO are now offered by Three Brothers (assuming they have not gone under).
Walthers still shows them on their website
http://www.walthers.com/exec/page/manuinfo/v340
And ConCor is offering a sale, but not on everything H&R

I have used the Walthers sidewalks with success but they come as part of the Walthers street system. I do not know if they are available separately. Frankly except for the neat interaction with the Walthers curbing and driveway castings, I think you’d get much the same look with simple styrene cut neatly into squares, somewhat the size of Scrabble squares. A tiny bit of tacky glue applied with a pin and some fine ground cover from Woodland Scenics and you’d have the look of sidewalks with grass growing in the cracks.

Dave,
I think Three Brothers Manufacturing may have gone under. The last URL I have for them:
http://people.msoe.edu/~bakers/bridgemaster.html
now yields a “404 error.”

Thanks, Dave & Bob. After re-reading my initial post, I realize that it was somewhat misleading, in that, it seems like I’m interested in sidewalk sheets, also. The July thread directed the reader to a series of websites showing layouts where modellers had used Holgate and Reynolds sheets for external building walls-brick, stone, etc., which is my interest. The sites’ modellers expressed great satisfaction with their realism, etc.
Neither Walthers, nor ConCor, list these products.
Any other ideas, or am I chasing my tail?
Thanks again-

Bob B: If Three Brothers (located on the south suburban Milwaukee) had a prior website on MSOE.edu, that is the local tech school here in Milwaukee which has a very nice HO layout. Perhaps someone graduated or the school decided it did not want commercial activity on a “dot edu.”
It seems Walthers still lists Three Brothers and mentions bi levels and their interesting if complex bridge kits

Gaelic: As to Holgate & Reynolds I do remember their sheets and the Walthers page mentions “texture” which I think is the same thing. But looking at my most recent Walthers catalog (2003 – I know I know but they are expensive!) I see plastic sheets from Brawa, Pikestuff, and building paper brick from JV Models, not H&R.
Still I would try H&R itself. The Walthers catalog does not include everything – as the folks at Athearn would be quick to remind us lol.
I can tell you I have seen plastic brick sheet from a British manufacturer in “OO/HO” at a swap meet but cannot recall the mfg. I know I have sheets of pastic brick from Walthers itself but I bought it years ago and it seem to no longer be cataloged. Don’t overlook their plastic street material although I myself have not used that material for buildings.

Thanks, Dave-

That was most likely Wills.

I just found a source for brick etc sheet. I was in an ad that appeared in Model Railroader’s special modeling the 1950s edition

N Scale Architect – and not just for HO either
Check out this part of their website

Thanks again, Dave-

Slater’s Plastikard ( a British product ) is a styrene sheet which comes in several textures. They make several varieties of brick, English bond, Flemish bond, and just plain brick in 4mm and 7mm scales. ( These would be roughly equivalent to HO and O scales in US usage. )

It can be obtained in the US from International Hobbies http://www.interhobmodels.com/

I’d be careful of anything in the Con-Cor yard sale area. The last update to those pages was in May of 2003. I’ve tried on several occations to order from there with no luck.

I understand that they are in the process of updateing the enire site, but nowhere near done.

H&R brock sheet is no longer made as far as I know. Some time ago their tooling was stolen and sold for scrap (!) and the brick sheet being a very minor line in the bigger business, it was not replaced.

I went looking for old H&R stock a couple of years ago and turned up exactly one shop in North America that had stock, and bought enough for my needs for a while. All I can tell you is good luck, and that the Walthers stuff is pretty nice too [:)]

Thanks, edkowal, dickencr, & BentnoseWillie-
I found Slater’s Plastikard website-no pictures-guess I’ll have to order some samples. This kills me-my friends say I wouldn’t spring for a nickel to see an earthquake!
I guess Willie has solved the H&R mystery.
Thanks again-

Perhaps there is no greater joy than watching another model railroader spend money …
