Holy Cow!! Did you see MTH's winnings against Lionel?

Wow is about the only think crossing my mind on this at the moment!!

I’m worried that this will give MTH a big head and drag the whole hobby into a lawsuit![;)]
Maybe UP is taking lessons from them!!![:D]

link please

Its over on the CTT site…40.7 million …holy boy.

OK, I found it. Wow; Lionel is a really crooked company! Add it to the Enron, Tyco list.

And another company

Yeah, 40.7 million! Thats crazy, I never knew any manufacter even had that much!

Where are Lionel and MTH headquarted, and where are they manufactured - just curious (for a reason) ?

Near Baltimore (Columbia), Maryland.

dougal - thanks.

While Lionel and MTH have their headquarters in the US, their trains are all manufacturered in Korea and China.

and thanks to you also - Sask_Tinplater

After reading the article regarding the award and if what has been said is true then I have to say Good, it looks good on them. It also makes you realize that this is not a nickel and dime industry. No wonder UP wants a cut!

thing is, that 40.7 mil problably will be reduced on appeal

Hey guys,

What about the lawsuit of MTH vs. QSI? Any word? This is the one that may affect the DCC market in ALL scales. Even though the main issue was “Back EMF”, the scope of it will have an overall affect on the advancement of DCC.

I am certainly no fan of MTH (with the QSI law suit and all) but I did work for Mike Wolf part time while attending UMBC in the late 80’s. So I am familiar with the internal workings of MTH. MTH spent some serious R&D on a locomotive (and I can’t remember the model right now) and then they finally released it. Less than three months later, Lionel released the exact same loco. It was a clear case of corporate espionage. I am really surprised that Lionel thought they could get away with it. What is really interesting is that there is still a container full of those Lionel locos that haven’t been accounted for……

First, this jury shows their stupidity and the “get the big guy” mentality in the country. Yes I have been on jury duty several times and can tell you some horror stories about how our system doesn’t always work. If my numbers are correct - MTH would have to have sold 1000 locos at $1000 apeice for every million in lost sales. That means they claim to have been able to sell 12,000 locos at $1000 to amount to their loss. Come on, there are not 12000 HO modelers buying a loco at HO prices let alone the ridiculous numbers claimed by MTH. IMO this guy is displeased he’s never been able to capture the market and is taking out in the courts. If you can outsell them - sue them.
