Holy Guacamole!!! Vic has an OUTDOOR layout!!! NOW EXPANDING!

SURPRISE![:p][:0][:o)]

After 5 years of on-again off-again dealing with Thou Shalt Not Build A Garden RR and Get Thy Hinnie Into The Garagery I FINALLY FOUND ROOM FOR A GARDEN RAILROAD!!![:D]

Annoucing the inagurational run of the Borracho RR’s Snafu and Fubar branch, serving the Fubar Mine and the small settlement of Snafu Junction. Its not very big but somethings better than nothing! A 5’ x 9’ left over area from the last area to get pavers in the backyard… The used logic was that this will be my layout till we get the new garage built. Whatever the reason, it worked! So now I’m officially an OUTSIDER![8D]

Overall View

1st Train around Mt. Fubar

1st train thru Snafu Junction

1st train around Simba’s Rock

Test set ups:

Track test layout

1st test train on the test track

2nd test train on the test

Hi Vic
Had a quite chuckle with the names[swg].
What is the sort of oriental looking building at the staion…
Ok the Railway Engineering Ddepartment is finished for now what does Parks & Gardens and the Mines department have in mind for the
greening of the line and a means of shiping the ore.
It may be small and make mine look like a giant but you still got a lot of happy hours ahead of you if you can stop playing trains long enough[:D]
Hope Parks & Gardens Dept will let us know what plants have been chosen
to make it a proper garden railway.
Keep us posted
regards John

Vic
Your out door line looks great! Stick with it. Small railroads provide as much fun as large ones and require little maintenance. If I stared over I would take on of the plans from Carl Arendt’s web site with a continuous running feature and expand it . Keep up the good work.
Bob

[:O] Holy Smokes! Vic has a train running----outside even… Quick, quick- everybody buy a Lotto ticket right now!!![:P]

Vic, I salute you [bow][bow][bow][bow][bow][bow][tup]

VIC
it’s ABOUT TIME , now you have to start adding more track so you can take up more yard space and less grass to cut . happy RAILROADING VIC BEN[:)]

Hip,hip,horrah.
Well done Vic.You are now going to invest in some knee pads to find all those little bits that fall off the trains.

Kudos Vic!

Thanks Guys,

Had to jump on the opportunity when it arose, so I just did it, basicly used whatever i had left lying around and I was able to trade all of my NIB wide radius track and switches that I was never able to use for the remaining track. Luckily remembered to take a couple pics whe I set down the test track. No plants are planned, I wanted a rock garden RR, something small and very zen, so I’m looking for some more unique rocks to add to it as the dog has already taken to running thru parts of it, and some more birdhouses so i can simply leave them out there, also help deter the dog from using it as a shortcut. I still need to decide if I’m going to control block the sidings so I can run multiple trains. Right now I just run one and let it go. burned out right now, just got back from an all day Blues Festival, so I’m a little cooked…

Hi Vic
Even a Zen garden has a something green and alive in it somewhere.
Get this right and your Parks and Gardens Department might allow
a small extention.
Our garden was CARP when we moved in most of it still is.
SWMBO did not take long to work out the larger the
“in motion garden feature” gets the more work she can get me to do in the garden.
SWMBO would never admit to having something common like a garden railway[:D]
If it was me I would wire the siding so that the maximum possable operations where avalable.
Given the oriental garden theme you have adopted might be worth looking around for a suitable tenple or tea house and using the US style structures on to the indoor line
regards John

Vic my man…looks awesome!!! [bow][bow][bow][bow][bow][bow]

Cant wait for more pics!!!

Bravo Vic-now for your next trick-can you make one of those Scientific Toys Loco go around it once without derailing? [:D]

Oh Man thats EASY, its called kitbashing, by which you take the Scientific loco and bash it with a mallet until all the bits and pieces fits into a gondola, then it goes around the layout fine, no derailments at all[:p]

Rainy season is coming, I’m sure I’ll get some weeds, Hey, their green![:D][:p][;)]

Hi all, well looks like I’ll be expanding the outdoor layout this winter. It will extend along the planter wall next to the bamboo to make a folded dogbone of a layout. I pulled up 2 rows of pavers to make room for it and will be using the track I pulled up from the garage layout. all the test laying is done, and the gravel has been layed. All I have to do is clamp the track sections together and I double the size of my layout from tiny to just small ![;)]

track will go along blocks where the green chair is.

I’ll try to get a plan loaded to show new layout[8D]

the Plan:

http://1stclass.mylargescale.com/vsmith//Outdoor%20layout%20expansion1.pdf

I think I’ll merge this with the “ever shrinking” thread just to keep thing easier to keep track of.

Nope, won’t work. It would have to be renamed the “ever growing” thread! I like that track plan, it looks a little bit like what I’m going to do on my rebuild. The dogbone just won’t die, will it??

Vic, that expansion will give you a nice run and switching opportunites too. The plan is excellent.

VIC
YOU HAVE TO COME to the ECLSTS TO GET MORE GOODYS to expand , you add and add , and before you know it the whole yard is full of track. ben

Marvelous Vic!

Don’t listen to them going on about greenery. Actually Zen gardens don’t have to have anything green. Though a stream/creek would look fitting but it makes life more difficult if you want to move things around.

Oh yes, I don’t think the building next to the station looks oriental. Come live in Japan and you can see what oriental looks like. Looks very ‘country rustic’ to me.

Keep us updated on your progress.

Now we all know why California is about to wash away from the Left Coast!

I know you’re gonna have a ball, Supervisor of Property aquisition will come around after you have some friends over for refreshments on the patio and the trains are going round and they become a topic of conversation.
