This weekend my layout was on the SJMRRC’s home layout tour and it was a success. The layout was opened from 9-5 on Saturday and 12 -5 today. There were 78 people that showed up to see the layout over the past two days, and i’d also like to thank some of you guys that visit this forum for coming over to see the layout.
This was my first year on the tour and found that it was a lot of work tp prepare for. I even had to stay up Saturday night to correct a track problem and didn’t get to sleep until 2 am. I replaced a turnout and rewired a tortoise machine that was feeding power to the frog rail of a select control turnout which didn’t solve the problem. i finally found that the turnout’s rail insulating gap was too wide causing a sound locomotive to loose sound and power momentary. I got it fixed and managed to get some shut eye for a few hours before the next day.
I’m planning on doing it again next year and hopefully , will have more scenery done. chuck
I’m glad to hear the tour went well for you! I was planning on visiting your layout while it was open this year, but my layout was on tour here in Austin yesterday, so I couldn’t make the trip east to see your layout. Perhaps next year will work out…
Glad to hear that it went well. If I recall correctly you had experienced some frustration in initially getting on the schedule. Looks like it worked out in the end.
The San Jacinto club does a pretty good job of organizing the fall layout tour. And it’s big, stretching over 8 weekends from October 18th through Dec 7th. If anyone on the greater Houston area is interested, you can download the layout tour schedule at: http://sanjac.leoslair.com/tour.htm
We won’t be up in the area until late in November, so we’re somewhat limited in the choice of layouts that we can visit. But there are a number of good ones on tour, in all stages of construction. It’s always nice to visit a layout you haven’t seen before and make some new friends.
