HOn2 1/2

Are there any commercial mfg out there that still make this scale in “ready to run”,form??? Thanks Easter.

I believe that Bachman does. They have a steady market of Christmas Trains sets marketed via those Exchanges that are found on the drop-out cards in magazines. They are On30. (Is that the same thing? Dunno.)

Bachmann makes On30 stuff, and not HOn30, totally different. At one time AHM offered HOn30 sets, nowadays ,many European firms offer it.

HOn2 1/2 is 1:87 (HO) scale running on narrow gauge track with the same gauge as N scale standard gague.

On30 (or, to some at MR, On2 1/2*) is 1/48 (O) scale running on narrow gauge track with the same gauge as HO standard gauge.

There’s lots of commercial RTR On30. I’ve only seen a few kits for HOn2 1/2, but, then again, I’ve never looked. Edit: Bob refreshed my memory re: European products. I don’t know whether any of them ar US prototype or not.

*Consistency is useful, but it is also, as has been said, “the hobgoblin of the small mind.” Virtually no one who works in or manufactures On30 uses the On2 1/2 nomenclature, but some pundits insist upon while simultaneously ignoring the model railroading done in that idiom.

ROCO made what they called a narrow gauge industrial railroad. It used 9mm or N-gauge track but was HO scale. At one time they offered track and turnouts. I could not find it the 2005 Walthers book. E-Bay ???

You guys are right. It’s HO scale running on N gauge track. AHM did make those sets.CAN’T FIND ANY OF THAT AROUND. I will try some of the european mfg. Thanks to all. Easter

You might want to look for HOe, that’s what the gauge has been called at one time, and may be the description in Europe.

ROCO still lists HOe on their web site. www.roco.com

Look under products and then narrow gauge. Walthers listed items as late as 2002 under train sets. At one time they made track (N-Gauge) with HO scale tie spacing. Find a ROCO dealer and they may be able to help you.

Most people in this country using HOn2 1/2 (which is the same as HOn30) are following the Maine 2 footers. This hobby store in Maine http://www.trainandtrooper.com/ carries HOn30 as well as Sn2 and On2.

This page http://home.powertech.no/jr/jdf/ho30.htm has a lot about it also.

HOn30 is NOT a good scale to find ANYTHING ready-to-run, aside from the little Roco locomotives with little single-truck gondolas.

HOn30, like most narrow gauge, is the realm of the scratchbuilder/kitbasher, aside from some custom brass that you’d still have to paint.

I agree with Jetrock.Sometimes there is information about it in Narrow Gauge and Shortline Gazete.I saw an ad for a plastic Shay body that fits on a N scale switcher recently.

Yes, there is quite a bit of H0E stuff on the market. Roco and Lilliput are the major European manufacturers. Historically, add Eggerbahn and Jouef. If you can cope with kits, there is quite a bit of 009 stuff about, including more rollingstock than most of us could handle. Strangely enough, I spent a couple of hours searching the net for 009 gear just last night…
