HOn2 1/2

Are there any manufacturers out there or mail order houses that sell HOn2 1/2???

Try a Google or Yahoo search for “HOn30” (many thirty-inch advocates will tell you it’s THIRTY INCHES, not TUNA HALF)

And here’s a good place to start…

Trainworld usually has great deals on Bachmann On30 gear: http://www.trainworld.com/ Many mail order shops sell it too, you just have to look around.

On30 is not quite the same as HOn30…

There are numerous HOe (1/87 scale 9mm gauge) items available in Japan. Unfortunately, they are all of distinctly Japanese prototype equipment, and even the kit prices are enough to stagger the imagination (or flatten the bank account.)

FWIW, a Japanese model railroader took the Tomix model of Thomas’ (the Tank Engine) little friend Percy and converted him into a very credible HOe 0-4-0t - rather like a Koppel design in appearance; not improbable for use on a Japanese or European 762mm gauge line, but far too light for American service.

I’m afraid that HOe is more of a builder’s scale, especially when compared to standard gauge HO or N, or even HOn3.

Try the following: http://www.trainandtrooper.com/hon30.html My locomotives include a Joe Works Shay and Climax and two Climaxes built around N gauge diesel mechanisms. I use Peco, Bemo and Tillig track and turnouts but N gauge track can also be used. There are many articles by Frary and Hayden in past issues of MR that got me started in this gauge back in the early eighties. Peter Smith, Memphis

Just to check you want HO2 1/2 on 9mm gauge track, (also known as 009 in the UK or HOe in Europe),

In the UK Chivers make whitemetal / pewter loco kits to go on N gauge Bachmann or Graham Farish, ( part of Bachmann UK), chassis. I believe Bob Hayden used a Forney on his Maine 2ft layout.

The kits certainly used to be available from a company called international models that advertises in MR.

I bought some Joe Works HOn 2 1/2 locomotives back in 1980. Is there much of a market for them?
