Okay, the new Microtrains/Big City Hobbies HOn30 (AKA HOn 2 1/2) models have been out for awhile. I had a couple of the old ones back in the 1960’s when they had two speeds - fast and stop. I have purchased a diesel and a steam of the new ones for a potential micro-layout to be built in the future. I have tested these locomotives and operations seem to be much better than before.
Is there someone on the forum who has built a layout using these new HOn30 models - and do you have a photo or two to share?
Bill
Hi Bill,
I haven’t but I just got me arm bent to help a mate put an N Bachmann Mike chassis under a cut-down HO Roundhouse 2-8-0 body, didn’t look to bad and ran on DC ok. Till he found he had to extend the harness for HO tender and DCC , didn’t need the phone I could hear him yelling JP from the floor above at the club.
That done, we plugged in our old DSD chip used to test stuff and it worked great, he’s saving for the Tsunami rigg now.
Be in touch.
pick.
These models are about the only thing in my life I bought low and sold high. I obtained mine in the early 1970s, was frustrated by them, set them aside for years, then sold them at a tidy profit a few years ago. Now they actually run, as you’ve noted. I do HOn3, but am curious how people find the new ones for a potential future micro layout.
