We all have seen the ubiquitus used car dealership on many a layout. I got to thinking. What if I changed things up a bit. What if I lined up rows of toilets and out houses and made a place where one can aquire one of these second hand dandies at good prices. I am sure Mr. Karr, can line ya up on an environmentally freindly low water use model.
To those who were NMRA members when Whit Towers was the ‘Bulletin’ editor, the idea isn’t unfamiliar. Photos of unusual outhouses appeared almost every month, to the point that some members began to complain about the smell.
I heard of a 1925 PRR derailment that broke open a boxcar load of bathroom porcelain, most of which disappeared. Wonder if that’s where Mr Karr got his stock.
A more modern operation would be a port-a-potty dealer such as Don’s Johns which I see all over the Northern Virginia construction sites. They have storage yards of them that you could model.
tomikawaTT: I always enjoyed Whit’s outhouses and was sorry to see them go. Their passing was IMHO a sign of the overly serious brand of model railroading that seems to be running rampant through the hobby today.
My local hobby store has a 3 pack of porta-jons for construction sites that would be great for your idea after some detail… and I also think you might have just a little bit of too much spare time… but ok keep being that creative and something good will happen.
