Hook & Loop couplers don't fit trucks

I have a set of, what I believe are, Bachmann G Scale trucks. They are simply marked “Made in China”.

I tried to install a set of Bachmann hook & loop couplers on them but they don’t fit. The raised area on the tongue of the truck is just a bit too wide to accomodate the slot on the tongue of the coupler.

I’ve tried all of the extra hook & loop couplers I’ve got (about 40 spares) but none of them fit. I even tried the few Aristo-Craft hook & loop couplers but they don’t fit either.

I hesitate to spend money buying more hook & loop couplers online since I have no way of knowing if they’ll fit and I’ve already got a bunch that don’t so certainly don’t need to add to that collection.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks! Ed

I assume you are referring to that little round knob on the end of the tongue being to wide to fit in the round hole in the slot on the coupler. Will the rest of the tongue on the truck fit in to slot on the coupler OK? If so simply cut the round projection of the knob off the tongue. If the tongue itself is still too wide for the coupler slot then you will have to trim the tongue down a bit till it fits. Its the screw and the fitting of the tongue in the slot that holds the coupler in place. The round knob helps lock the two together but alot of trucks dont have that knobby part. The problem is with your trucks as you have tried several other couplers with the same results. It sounds like you got some sort of oddball product so the modifications will have to be made there.

No, it isn’t the knob at the end of the tongue…it is the entire raised part that is too wide.

Guess I’ll have to find my wife’s emery boards and try those. I don’t think I’d get very good results using my Dremel tool.
