Being raised just over the border in Montana , I have many early family memories and a history connection with this great city, Calgary zoo, Bowness Park, Heritage Park, the Stampede and the great people.
I hope things get better for you very soon.

Lived in Calgary for 5 years, graduated from U of C, taught in the City…we have many friends there (sadly some affected)…this is all devastating!
I second that, my heart goes out to those folks!
What a mess. I get to Calgary often and on more than one occasion have been the recipient of the harsh weather that drops by that city. I hear the Saddle dome was flooded up to row 10. Good thing the Flames aren’t in the playoffs this year.
There are a few nice old Steamers in the area, including this one. I hope they are high and dry.[sigh]

Our thoughts are with the people of Calgary tonight.
Prayers to the folks affected by the Calgary flood.
Large parts of Germany were affected by severe flooding a few weeks ago. Fortunately, only few casualties had to be accounted for, but the damage is tremendous!
… and the aftermath:
To all those with rising waters:
Our prayers go with you. Keep your feet dry!
Stu
Dianne and I offer our support to those who are suffering from the flooding.
We have come too close to being flooded a few times. Once while we were in Chatham, Ontario the only thing between us and serious flooding were the railway right of ways which we happened to be between. We ended up with an inch or so in the back basement as well as standing water on the lawns. No big deal, thank goodness! Our friends to the north and south of the CP and CN rights of way didn’t fare so well. One friend of ours told us about being woken up by the freezer bumping against the basement ceiling. Another had several canoes beached on his front lawn, which was supposedly high ground.
And there are still those who would say that global warming is a non issue. I hope when their ostrich holes flood they will finally come up for air and see the light!
Dave
Ulrich!
That’s nasty! We know that you are a strong country and that you will persevere!

Thoughts and prayers to all affected by Mother Nature. Stay safe and be well.
Don.
I lit an extra prayer candle for those affected by the natural disasters…the floods, the fires, the tornados, for all everywhere. I have kept it vigil for a long time as an additional candle to the general prayer candles.
I lost a house to a fire some 20 years ago so I know what it is like to lose everything. I spent the night inteh hospital treated for smoke inhalation walked out of the hosital in the hospital PJs they gave me… My biggest loss experience? A comb to comb my hair -at the motel the day after the fire I had none. I had to buy one at a convience store on the way to work to comb my curly locks so I looked half way decent. To this day I carry a comb everywhere with me.
May they find peace and hope among the ruins.
And I wish them a clean pair of clothes and a comb.

Things aren’t as bad here as they were in Germany. I won’t exaggerate, but this is unparalleled and unprecedented in Calgary. The sheer amount of water is staggering, and something like 6 feet above the last record breaking flood we had. The CP mainline in town is fine, the downtown yard isn’t very high above the water but Alyth is on a large embankment. The line west of town is washed out in several places on the Laggan sub and in Crowsnest Pass almost all the highways and bridges are closed inside the city as well as to the west and south, nearly a hundred thousand people were evacuated, but the good news…all the railway history is fine. The Selkirk linked earlier is on a hill which hasn’t been underwater for a good 10,000 years, and Heritage Park is high and dry.
I’ve been out shooting, and I have a gallery up on my website to check out.

The floods in Calgary are far worse than anticipated and still not over yet, it’s still raining in the foothills and the crest is heading down to Medicine Hat and Lethbridge, the damage to Calgary is enormous, no one will even guess to the hundreds of millions of dollars in damage, highway travel west and rail have halted as bridges and trestles are damaged, truly a flood of the century, downtown Calgary is closed and will be for a long while, other small towns are experiencing the same fate.
My prayers go out for everyone in Calgary who is affected.
And to think - I just sent out a newsletter yesterday complaining about the tiny flood I had in my layout room. It was written before the Calgary flood but I do feel a bit of an ijit for it now…
All best wishes,
Jason
Being very familiar with Calgary and following the news reports the amount of rain that has/is falling in areas distant to the City was an enormous torrent, that took all by surprise,
When the rain torrents hit Calgary the two main rivers were already at crest levels and the floods started.
Nature is a powerful force,
Best wishes to all affected…
May God bless those in the floods and in the path of the fires.
I lost 90% of my household goods and over 3,000 railroad photos and slides dating from the 50s-including PRR,C&O and N&W steam locomotives around Columbus,Ohio in the great Bucyrus flood of '07…
I can not even describe the terrible empty feeling of losing your home and personal items that can not be replace…
This is just awful.
The damage done has to be comparable to what Sandy did to New York. I hope that everyone in the area gets through it OK.
Deleted. My sincerest apologies to all.

Global warming alarmists…there are web sites that are dedicated for people who are interested in debating/discussing the theory and disinformation/misinformation surrounding said theory. I could be mistaken, but I don’t believe this web site is one of them…
I believe the spirit of this thread is to send thoughts, prayers, and well wishes for those affected by mother nature, not stir up a debate (which always becomes heated and tend to turn political) between those who believe/follow the theory, and those that do not subscribe to said theory.
Thoughts and prayers to all those in need and affected by this horrible event.
I live on the east coast and was effected by the big flood we had a couple of years ago! My entire house had to be gutted and rebuilt. I dont wish that upon anyone. My prayers and wishes are with you!!!
I’ve got family living in Calgary and they have lost everything. They evacuated their home and stayed with friends. They went back 2 days ago to find their home basically destroyed, it shifted off the foundation and was under 20 feet of water. We offered them a place to stay until everything gets sorted out.
