Hornby Zero One modules

Some years ago,my brother-in-law installed 6 hornby Zero One modules in 6 of my Ho engines. How can i remove these modules and restore these engines to regular use with a transformer? Thanks;Doc

this is exactly the same as removing dcc chips that do not have the 8 pin plug. i am sure one of the DCC guys out there will give you a better explanation or just find a DCC instalation article in a mag and follow ot backwards.

we had a zero 1 unit and an ice cream tub full of decoders for about 5 years. we eventually just threw it away. we couldnt even get £5 fot it!

You basically need to desolder the three wires from the decoder to the loco - these decoders are wired with one side of the motor remaining connected to the track power supply. You’ll need to re-instate the power feed to the other side of the motor. As far as disposing of the decoders is concerned, try eBay, there’s a fair bit of Zero 1 equipment selling on there regularly. Zero 1 works pretty well so long as you follow the same techniques as for DCC - basically installing a power bus with regular track feeds and keeping the rails clean. As long as this is done it works very well - my LHS owner recalls operating an exhibition layout completely powered by Zero 1 (even using accessory decoders to power switch machines) which was carefully set up and worked perfectly.
