What kind of horns do you like?I like the K5LA best.
Newer horns, the K5LLA (think SD70ACe or M-2). Traditional 5-chime, the P5 or the Leslie RS5T, the latter getting the edge. Favorite is the P3. Close second is the Leslie RS3L. The K3L has a good chordal tuning (Canadian D-minor), not as harsh as the K3LA.
I guess having grown up with them on the Minneapolis Northfield and Southern, I’ll always prefer the Hancock 4700 air whistle - a diesel airhorn designed to sound like a steam engine whistle.
i like any of the Nathan horns they all have a unique sound
Which brings me to bad horns.I’ve heard bad horns, some I’ve seen on Youtube are the worst I’ve ever heard.Good examples are the CSX sick horn video, some UP engine with a quiet horn(can’t hear it until it’s right at the crossing and the crossing where the video was filmed had no active warning system, just signs),and the CSX annoying horn video(sounds like a party noisemaker).I caught a few bad horns on video also. What’s the worst horn you’ve ever heard?

I like the kind of horn that stays attached to the locomotive.
In the mid-Atlantic area there have been a rash of horns being stolen from locomotives that have been parked at outlying locations. Nothing worse than having a local freight come to work on Monday morning and find out that they can’t toot.
You guys are a real “HOOT!”
