Hornsby Flying Scotsman power question

Hello all. I purchased a Hornsby Flying Scotsman for my son. I was informed that it would run on HO track, and yes it fits on the track. However, I now realize that powering it is going to be an issue, it came with a transformer with a plug that fits outlets in the UK. Does anyone know of an American Transformer that will run this engine or do I need to buy an outlet converter?

Thanks so much!

Ruth

You should be able to use any American DC transformer - I have a British OO layout in the basement and use DC transformers from MRC and Bachmann to run my Hornby and Bachmann UK outline gear.

A standard bachmann starter transformer set can run all my Thomas the tank engine Hornby locomotives.

Thank you both! We were able to figure out that the transformer we were using wasn’t producing enough power, and the brushes were very worn. However, it is running, and I’ve got one very very happy little boy.

Trains have been an integral part of our lives since my husband was born. He is German, and has had a “garden” every year of his life. He introduced me to trains in 1981 when we were married, and all of our children have been enamored of trains since they were born. Sadly the two that are now adults have discarded their love of model railroading, but I’m raising a new crop (8 year old triplets), two of whom are identical twin boys that simply love trains, one of them is completely obsessed with them… all kinds… from Thomas the tank wooden to every gauge of model trains. This little boy requested a Flying Scotsman 3 years in a row for Christmas and finally got one, this year. The first year that he learned how to talk he requested a Lionel Jr, and I found one on Ebay that was in running condition.

You know you have a fan on your hands when your favorite (and enduring) Christmas presents are used trains that come in plain cardboard boxes or beat up original boxing!

You should be able to get new brushes from Hornby USA or one of their dealers.
