How about a little train haiku? I'll start with my first effort...

I know there are plenty of talented folk on this Forum who will be able to do a good job with this style of poetry from Japan. Haiku has only three lines. First line has five syllables, second line has seven, and the third has five. An art of brevity but still conveying a mental image.

So here’s my effort…[:0]

diesel thunder growls
lonely horn sounds through the night
rain glistens on rails

Hopefuly some of you other folk will give it a go…

Cheers [:)] [;)]

Kozzie

Hey, the gates are down!
I cannot believe my eyes
The Sunset’s on time!

Good one Mike! [:)][:)]

Keep 'em comin people… [:)]

Dave

Green light on the way
In notch 8 making up time
Sounds of drivers on the track

Green lights all the way,
Sounds of drivers on the track,
Clean smoke up the stack !

Thanks nuclearwinter for doing most of the work. You have 5-7-7.

Waiting to depart,
The engineer calls HIGHBALL!
We speed through the night.

Try this:

Green light on the way
In notch 8 making up time
Driver sounds on tracks

Jack

Crossing gates lower
Fool in fast car is rushing
Hard to mourn his kind

Black smoke on mountains
stack blast across the green valley
Ephraim’s machines run at Cass!

Huge Locomotives
Many cars trailing behind
FRED brings up the rear.

Ummm, they don’t rhyme…

They are not supposed to, that is the beauty of haikus.

Later in the year
Relatives travel to Oz
To ride the “new” Ghan!

Dog bark, do he bite?
Run from cop with all my might.
No train ride tonight.

Morning fog billows;
Air pumps drubbing in the mist.
Lazarus rises.

Hey everyone! Thanks for giving it a go! [:)]
It’s a challenge, but produces some good stuff! [:)][:)]

Hard to pick a favourite from these efforts, but I particularly like Richard’s “Departure” and Dale’s “Green Lights”

Keep ‘em comin’ people, let’s get those litlle grey cells jumping! [:)]

This ones called “765”

Smoke in the distace.
Whistel blows in the distace.
765 thunders down the track.

Daylight is on time today
