From what I can see these engines look great. I would like some feedback on the ldetails and also how it runs. I just love these engines. They are brutes IMO. The sound of these at full throttle is music to my ears. Below is one that I am talking about. Also it seems like they came out with a new version. What are the changes they made?
I just got one in Burlington Northern its a great puller and its smooth runner but the numbers are way to big to be prototypically accurate for BN i dont know about the rest of the models but watch out if you plan to buy one in BN paint you may be dissapointed![:(!]
I saw some running down at the Delmarva Club last weekend, and while they’re not perfect, for the price point, you can’t argue with a few idiosyncracies. Besides, aren’t we Model Railroaders? Don’t we still have a toolbox and some bits and pieces at our disposal?
This engine runs very smooth. It looks very good as well. If I was expecting to get an engine that was prototypically accurate, I would purchase a Kato, where the price of it would reflect that. I mean, comon, let’s get real for a moment. Finding prototypically exactness is not going to happen with a Bachmann. Instead of paying $39.00 for it, finding one that was prototypically accurate would more likely cost $239.00, or even $339.00 or more and would more likely be with Kato because that’s what they specialize in, getting it prototypically accurate.
This instead, is a nice engine that runs very well at a budget price. To me, it runs very simular to some Proto and blue box Athearn models. Prototypically accurate? No, probably not. But then again, it sure does look like the real thing anyway. I’m very happy with it and no, I’m NOT dissapointed in any way, and this is coming from a Kato, Atlas and Athearn Genises man.
Have 6-7 of them. No problems. All good runners. For $25.00 - $30.00 each can’t go wrong. Add your own detail. Have one turned into a dummy to run with my BLI sound engines. Running DC only for me.
I’ve got one with DCC onboard and I love it. Its lacking in detail yes, but it does run and pull well, and insofar, I’ve been able to run it on DC with my BB GP40-2 making for a pertty good pair. More likely than not, I’ll be buying some more of them since CSX owns a number of SD40-2s. I’ll also be making changes to them to match prototypes, which won’t be too hard, but that’s why we are model railroaders.
