How can Mac users do BBcode on this forum ?

I can’t get any BB code to work with my Mac, using Safari. I’ve also tried an old version of IE for Macs (version 5.2, which I think was the last they released). Here’s a sample, trying to show the word bold in boldface: bold I can’t show you what I actually typed – it gets all #^%@ up, even if iI enclose it in quotes! I’ll do it in pseudocode. For the above I typed the following, all on one line, with no spaces: left bracket (NOT the less-than sign displayed) b right bracket (NOT the greater-than sign displayed) bold left bracket slash b right bracket I also tried with spaces before and after the word bold, with capital B instead of lower-case b, and using the < and > symbols. Ditto most any other BBcode, like posting a url. And you wouldn’t believe what happens when I click “quote” . . . Am I missing something here, or just out of luck with a Mac?

I’m on a mac and using Safari as well, so this is an answer I’m interested in as well. This has already been asked many times yet, but how the heck do you get links to work on this new forum? Did I whack myself with a hammer or something, or is there something special I need to do?

Hi, Yoshi . . . welcome to the club! It seems the brackets get converted to < and > regardless of what we do, changing the BBcode to plain text. I’ve tried < and >, ellipsis { and }, parenthesis ( and ), and even control-brackets and control-shift-brackets. Nothing else gets changed, but nothing else works, either. Somewhere (I thought it was in the FAQ, but now I can’t find it) is a line that says something like IE 7.0 is the preferred browser. But it also says if you use another browser, BBcode can be used. Maybe BERGIE can help?

psst… switch to firefox

[:D]

Yeah, well, it does work (that’s what I’m using now), but shouldn’t Safari work also, without the forum changing brackets to < or >? It’s not exactly a substandard browser, after all!

Safari works just fine on other forums, and I prefer it for several reasons. I really, really, don’t want to use two different browsers! I may be an old systems guy, but I still dislike needless complexity!

I’m glad to find I’m not the only one having problems. I use Mozilla 1.0.2 as my browser, and am having the same problems as you have described - using the quote button just produces a vast amount of utter gibberish in place of the text. As for Bergie helping, with the best will in the world, I wouldn’t hold my breath while I was waiting. I commented on this problem almost a week ago in the sticky thread at the top of the list. It garnered no response. I’ll hazard a guess and say that the new forum is optimised for one particular browser, and one particular platform/operating system - and those of us who use anything else are not taken into consideration, by the look of it. That being the case, I’ll just learn to do without bbcode and the dubious benefits of “smilies”. All the best, Mark.
