Can someone tell me the simple solutions to setting up a train to go on a strait track to one end, stop and return back to the start, then repeat in an automatic fashion.
I’m thinking of running coal carts out a tunnel and back but I don’t think I have room for a loop.

Here is a solution but not sure how simple you will find it. Works great if you have any electronics background.
You can buy a ready-built unit, sometimes called a shuttle unit, that will do this, but I’m not sure if they’re available in the US. Try www.gaugemaster.co.uk/access.html - the SS-1 looks like what you’re after.
Bachmann offers an On30 Christmas trolley set with that feature.
There are several units in the Walther’s catalogue too.
I think both Minitronics and Circitron make a reversing ciruit. Check Walthers in the electonics section maybe track also.
Yep. Miniatronics makes a nice self contained unit. Even has its own plug in power supply.
