How do I control a crossing?

I have an Atlas 60* crossing?
With the use of various switches, Two main lines will have the right-of-way through this crossing.

The problem is, at times, I would like to operate conv. on one main and cmd. on the other at the same time.

Here is one scenario I have;
The train on TR-1 is running under conv. via TPC-1.
The train on TR-2 is running under cmd. via TPC-2.

With TR-2 at 18v, When the train on TR-1 (aprox. 6v) gets to the crossing it speeds up!
BUT not just until the engine passes!
It continues to get 18v until all 12 lighted coaches pass!
This of course sends the train flying out of control!

Like wise, when the train on TR-2 gets to the crossing it will studder or stop B/C it only see’s 6v.

So what should I do to control this crossing?

Pat, you need to electrically isolate the two paths. It sounds like the train is bridging the sources together. It should be easy seperate with the Atlas track. It’s the center rail that needs to be assigned to the correct source of power. If I’m understanding you correctly, that should do it.

Have you got all of your outside rails tied together from all of your power supplies?

You might want to check the wiring under the crossing to make sure that everything is suficiently isolated at the crossover point. Quality control being what it is, it is possible that either a the ground or hot is being pushed down on the other ground/hot by the weight of the loco and cars. A piece of electrician’s tape as a barrier between the wires will solve the situation if that is what the problem is.
