How do I get a lionel set from 2000?

I model N & HO scale, but have been bouncing around the I dea of getting an O scale set. I was doing some looking on the lionels website catalog and in the 2000 I saw a frisco freight set. I have a few questions. How could I get one of thease? Is O-27 track narrower then their fastrack? Would the track that came with it work with MTH railking track from c.the 50’s?

Welcome to the big trains!!

Ebay would be a place to look and emails to Lionel dealers around the nation can also sometimes give you satisfactory results.

O-27 track is the same width as fastrack. Lionel makes a transition section to connect the old sectional track and the new fastrack. Check out the Lionel website for more information about track.

I didn’t know MTH made track in the 1950s.

First off MTH wasn’t around in the 50’s in fact in the 50’s mike was about 8 years old I would say . They didn’t come to be till 1980.

Yes O27 and fast track same withe now mike train house (MTH) has real trax and Lionel has fast track they do not work with each other but with that being said they both offer a piece to where you can go from theres to O gauge track to you get 2 of those of each as you will need to go back at some point and you can go from ( as an example) fast track to O and then O to real trax. and then back again later down the track.

To get the set you want best bet is to look on ebay and hope someone offers it.

Best of luck and theres more O gauge train sets out there that go with your theme you want. But like you pick as for maker

Careful [;)] - when I got a Lionel train set in 2000, after modeling in N scale, I never went back…

There are some CTT advertisers who might merit a phone call about that specific set. Pick up the Feb issue.

I would suggest contacting places like Trainz and Charles Siegle at ChooChoo Auctions. I think they both have “Wish lists” and they buy up both old inventory from stores that close, and from individuals who are selling their trains.

Probably a better method of getting a Frisco set, would be to get the pieces individually (unless you feel the need for the box and inserts). I would type “Frisco” in the eBay auction search under the heading of Ogauge trains.

In your searches you might include the product number of the set which I think is Lionel 6-21972 , but you should confirm this.

See what, if anything, a search on Google or Yahoo turns up.

As for width, the “gauge”* of the track is the same with both FasTrack and 0-27, which means that a car that will roll on one track will foll on the other. However, the overall width of a straight section of FasTrack (ballast- track-ballast) is wider than a similar section of 027; and the radius of the curves and the height of the tops of the rails above the surface of the layout are different. Whereas you might find a complete set somewhere, given the date when the product was offered you might have to follow the suggestion above and build your set piece by piece.

Unless I’m doing something wrong, the Lionel online “Product Locator” isn’t worthy of the name. Essentially it is merely a dealer locator.
