My layout is built directly on a 3/8 plywood top (no foam base), so I was wondering what the best method for planting field grass would be. Do I simply drill tiny holes, drip a bit of glue in them, and shove the grass in like you do for foam-base benchwork?
Micro mark sells a field grass planting tool, which you could easily make yourself with an old paint brush. Remove the bristles and then stick one of those fat large head darning needles into where the bristles used to be, point first. Then cut off the end of the needle through the eye leaving a V shape. If you put the field grass in this V and press into the base then remove the tool and the grass will stay. Now, I use a foam base, so this is really easy. According to the mIcromark instructions, you should drill a hole to use the tool with hard base materials. Presumably, the hole should be very close in size to the tool.
just use some brown fake fur… it gives a very realistic efect and you gan give it swirls and lay it different directions like real grass.
Look at the SILFLOR products from Scenic Express before you go to planting individual clumps. This is amazing stuff.
