How do I remove an engine body for painting?

I have 2 Atlas Ho MP-15DC and 1 Proto 2000 GP30 locomotives that I want to repaint. After looking at the blowup diagram of both I know I have to remove the couplers but am afraid I do not know how to get the body off the frame.

I don’t want to damage them by guessing, and possibly ruining them. I expect it is easy but I do not want to take the chance.

I would be thankful for any directions.

On the GP30 they’re some screws hidden from view by the trucks. Rotate the trucks and you’ll see them, back by the fuel tank. Remove these an dthe shell will slide off. When you put the loco back together you can put in the screws for the couplers and that will hold the body in place.

Thanks, I had to remove the fuel tank cover and I found the little devils. Now that the GP30 is taken care of I may be able to figure out the two Atlas locos.

Atlas works differently than most builders. Usually the body and frame (steps etc.) are together. On Atlas engines, the frame is part of the chassis with the motor, so you’re only removing the main body of the engine. Be sure to disconnect any railings attached to both the body and the frame, as you can break them otherwise when snapping the body off.
