I am about to remove the factory lettering from my new Bachman Jackson Sharpe passenger cars. I know some of you have done this type of thing. What is the best method without damaging the plastic? Will the old lettering still show through? I also need to know who the fellow is that does the vinyl decals. Thank you for any advise you can offer.
With Bachmann lettering, I’ve had luck with a degreaser called “Super Clean.” (see “Garden Railway Basics” in the Feb '08 GR). You’ve got to soak the sides for around 15 minutes, but then the lettering (at least the gold lettering) comes right off. The success of one product over another has everything to do with the exact paint being used, which may be different from product to product.
There are two folks doing vinyl lettering for G-scale. G-scale Graphics and Shawmut Car Shops. It’s been a while since I’ve used Shawmut, but both companies offer very good products.

Check out my website and/or send me an e-mail. I would be glad to help you out.

Hi The web site seens to be working use lower case letters for the web site that should be ok
Well the Super Clean method works great! I soaked the sides of the car for fifteen minute intervals and used dry cotton balls between each soaking for the removal process. The lettering came off clean and left the paint intact. Thanks Kevin for the tip.
Where can I find some of this super clean stuff and will it work for removing the numbers on the sides of the car? I need to renumber a D&RGW combine [B)]
Mr Ash, I found the “Super Clean” at Wallies World in the automotive section of the store. The numbers came off easy enough, although the black background took a couple applications. Jack
Thanks that should save me atleast 1 trip and alot of wandering around! [:D]
