Joe,
Go to the bottom of the page at this link. It describes how to post a picture on the forum.
Basically, you have to find a host (i.e. web site) to upload your pics to then use the pictures URL address to post it on the forum. The icon at the top of the text box allows you to insert the picture’s URL into your post. You then press Insert then the Post button.

To reply more rudely than tstage-- (actually, tstage was not rude at all)–
You DON"T upload a picture from your computer file to this forum.
What you do on this forum is post a link to a picture you have uploaded somewhere else. I upload my pictures to “railimages” which is part of www.trainboard.com. I have over 100 pictures hosted there. I keep a list of the “links” as a word file in my computer, and when I was to show a picture, I click to little icon here on the trains.com “post message” box that looks like 2 frames of movie film. That opens a place to insert not my actual picture but the written “link” to my picture. When somebody looks at your post, that persons computer reads the link instruction (which is hidden) and goes and gets the picture from the host site and shows it here.
As I posted here, the other day, I opened a free account on photo bucket and upload my picture to that site.
When I want to post a picture here I type my text in a new or reply post, then open a new tab go to photo bucket, in large my photo, right click copy, come back to this forum and right click paste. Simple.
Good luck.

Would they upload from Yahoo Groups?
Hey try it. Can’t hurt. I hate the word “assume” but one would hope you could copy and paste from any site.
I just checked.
Won’t work from my picture file, Might not work from another website, must have to have a host site.

Right click on the photo, select ‘View image info’. Go to ‘Location’, highlight the line, right click, copy, come back to your post, enter {IMG} with instead of {}. Right click, then paste the line into your post. Now type {/IMG} with instead of {} and you have it. Click post. The image should show up in your post. Doing this with your own images is no problem but doing it with someone elses is known as ‘hot linking’ and is generally frowned upon as it puts more of a load on their bandwidth.
They got to make this easier for us non computer savy folk. Too much work.
Another way…right click the image from another site…in this case icanhazcheeseburger.com…
on the image thus clicked you get a dialog box with a bunch of options…click on copy image URL in this case…then come back and .right click **paste…**then highlight the img file, click the highlit area and then click copy and then click on the image icon on the top of the message bar…that will have a pop up that will show a box that you can then paste the img file into…
Joe,
As has been said that to upload pictures you must create a host such as PHOTOBUCKET www.photobucket.com It is free. After you create your account you merely click on the upload button and then select the picture you want to upload from your computer.
Now you are ready to post that picture to your thread.
There are two ways to insert the picture. The way I like to do it is to click on the direct link box under the picture on photobucket. This automatically copies the link. Then you go to the thread and there is a bar across the top. One of the icons is green and looks like film. Click on this and a window will open with a box to paste the URL that you got from photobucket.
When you click on isert the picture will show up on the thread wherever your cursor is.
I try to have the cursor placed so that I have space above and below the inserted picture.
It sounds like a big deal but it is actually simple once you get the hang of it.
Hope this helps
Happy Railroading

It’s so weird that I can upload a picture to my avatar, but not to the website.

If you want a detailed explanation of the procedure that is aimed at non-computer literate people (like me) go to this thread:
http://cs.trains.com/TRCCS/forums/p/181001/1981556.aspx#1981556
There are other ways to post pictures as well but this one works for me. Once you do it a couple of times it will be easy.

Download the photo from Yahoo Groups and then upload to Photo Bucket. I have done that. If someone elses photos, I would check with them first.

Mike,
The reason you can upload photos to your avatar is because they are limited to 5-10K in size. Kalmbach doesn’t have the room (i.e. the storage space) on their server to store images, which are generally 50K and up in size. That’s why you need a host web site like Photobucket.com or Railimages.com, who do have the servers and storage space capacity to upload your photos to.
Once your photos are uploaded to a photo hosting site like the ones given above, all that you need to provide is your picture’s URL (or web address). This can be accomplished by copying and pasting it right into your post as a link, or using the Insert Media icon (above you text box) and inserting it into the space directly below Link to Media. Click the Insert button then the Post button and your post and image (or image link) is posted.
Hope that helps…
Tom
