How do i wire a type r transformer

I just picked up a train set it has a type r transformer alot of track and a 6110 engine and six other cars my question is how do i hook it up i would like to put under christmas tree ty for all answers

The Type R is a unique but useful transformer.

For your set, connect the track(CTC Lockon clips 1 & 2) to terminals B & F respectively on the transformer. If the train runs too slow, connect to A & F instead… with the caution that it can/will run very fast if turned up too high.

Ty for help

I use a type R on my primary layout. Very reliable unit despite it’s age.

The voltages on the “R” use the A, B, or D post as Common or Ground. The variations of hookups for variable voltage (for train control) depends on which one you choose as your Common. The D post will not give you a variable source. only fixed voltage.

A to C or A to F will give you 14-24volts variable

B to C or B to F will give you 6-16 volts variable

For fixed voltages:

A to D 14 volts fixed voltage; A to B 8 volts fixed voltage

B to E 16 volts fixed; B to A 8 volts fixed

D to A 14 volts fixed voltage; D to E 10 volts fixed voltage.

This from service manual listing the different voltages with various terminal posts on transformer.
