I decided to add MU hoses to my cars ( Athearn Genesis “RAILBOX”) that are really detailed. I bought some Detail Associates MU AIR HOSES. Exactly were do these attach? It says to drill a #74 hole in the pilot. Maybe someone can either give me a pic, drawing or explain better were these attach in such a small area?
I have only attached them to my Locos, and of course there are obvious places for that. I always use a drill bit for the hole and then glue them into place. Oh, by the way you can do wonders with small lenths of wire and some paint, it’ll save you a few bucks too!!
You don’t need MU hoses on the cars - you mean the air brake hoses surely? MU hoses are only found on locos and passenger cars equipped for push-pull operation. Freight cars (apart from stuff like express boxcars which sometimes had steam heat through-piping and Amtrak MHCs with HEP through wiring) have a single hose at each end, usually near the coupler. From what I’ve seen these are sometimes mounted on the coupler pocket on a car with a cushion-coil underframe, otherwise they’re on the end of the underframe. Hope this is of help!
All the Genesis cars I have already have brake hoses applied. I agree
with Matt, your freight cars do not need MU hoses. Try putting them on your
locomotives-you’ll be much happier.
Sorry, they are Brake Hoses, not MU Hoses. I guess I can just mount them under the body.
joeyegarner,
I never thought of small brass wire.
