How do you attach figures to scenery?

Hi All,

I have a set of figures for the station platform and some for a depot I am finishing off.

I am concerned that if I glue them in place it will make it difficult to clean later, how do you guys suggest I attach them?

Plastic weld. What’s this clean you speak of?

If you do want removeable, plastic wled their little footsies to a small square of clear plastic, I recomend Transparency film (it won;t fog with a normal application of Plastic Weld like normal styrene clear plastic does). This gvies you the base like the old Bachmann peeps, but without the noticeable puddle of melted human.

We just did a discussion on this on 12/22/10 on the Layouts and Layout Building section. Some people like hot glue and some people like Aleens Tacky Glue. Either one allows instant sticking of figures on the surface and either one allows them to be removed easily.

I use Woodland Scenics scenic glue. It I need to dust, a can of spray air works well!

The spray air is available at places like Staples and WAlly world.

Woodland scenics makes 2 products for the job. Scenic Accents and Gentle Grips.

I personally use the Scenic Accents and it works as advertised. It’s tacky so you can just pick up the figures with a small tug and place them somewhere else. Here’s the link

The method I have used, is to drill into the leg of the figure, use super glue(I model in the UK so I am not sure what it is called in the US cynano perhaps?) then drill holes for fine bore copper or plastic tube where you want your figures to go. You then place the figures ,with their locating pins into what ever hole you want. It means that you can lift your figures out for cleaning also you can move them around your scene.

I often do this with figures, using brass rod and CA.

Another method I have used is to cut a small piece of clear plastic around the figure’s feet and glue that down with Aleene’s Tacky Glue.

I clean my layout with a soft brush attached to a small hand-held vacuum. Never had a problem with sucking up a figure.
