How Do You clean your Brass Trains

Hello Group,

Dose anyone know of a save way of cleaning your Brass Cars and engines? They have been in the boxes and now there is tarnish on them makes them look worn and old they have not been run just used for showcase I would like to shine them up again and bag them some how before they get ruined in anyway. Is there a way you can safely dib the brass or hand wipe them to get them back to the nice and shiney original state? All ideas welcome thank you all

TarnX works well if they’re not clear coated. Make sure you rinse it off good.

Once the loco is shiney again, is it adviseable to spray it with a clear gloss coat?

A few questions, you say they have been stored in boxes and tarnished, not run and used for showcase(what’s showcase??) are they displayed??? also you want to clean them, then BAG them, what’s that mean? you won’t be the first person to open up a brass locomotive and find it damaged almost beyond repair, I hope you understand many of us baffled by this storage procedure, One thing I would do is consult a train restorer as to proper advice to save this brass.
