How do you keep metal roof walks attached to plastic cars?

I have numerous covered hoppers with metal roof walks that have come loose. I have reattached them with CA adhesive but that is not always a permanent cure. I suppose that the main cause of this problem is that when the temperature changes the metal and the plastic expand or contract at different rates and stresses the glued joints. If that is the cause one unrealistic option would be to never let the temperature change.

Is CA the best way to attach these roof walks or is there a better option?

I usually use contact cement when gluing different materials together. It seems to work on just about everything except foam board which it causes to disintegrate.

Have you tried tacky glue? If it doesn’t set up hard, it can give a little with the temperature changes.

Good luck,

I’ve had good results with contact cement, too.
