I was thinking Conrail blue diluted with black but was wondering if someone else has came up with a formula that is close. I would be using Polly Scale paints, since I have gotten the best results from them.

I went crazy with various model renditions of Santa Fe Blue.
Problem is even you have the exact paint, it looks different under tungsten or flourescent bulbs, as opposed to outdoors in Sunlight, because it’s reflective light They don’t call this the blue planet for nothing.
TO THAT every paint fades and chalks under the sun. Depending on exposure, no two engines are exactly the same. Adding some white to existing paints simulates fading. Photos show immediately upon leaving the paint shop.
To do it right, you have to get flourescent bulbs that duplicate noon sunlight (expensive) and get a sample of MRL’s paint, and custom paint your engines;
OR siimulate. They’re only pretend engines.
I used Testors Model Master Blue Angel Blue. It looks very close to me.
Once you have found a hue that is close you need to decide close in which direction; if it’s too dark tint it with white; if it’s too light shade it with black. And for future reference remember and record what you did so you don’t have to beat your head against the wall at some future occasion.
For MRL blue I just used Floquil Dark Blue and it matched the blue Athearn used for the factory painted units. Hope that helps.
I too have used this color for my engines so far but a buddy of mine uses Pollyscale CSX Blue and it looks more the color than any other blue out there for MRL.
I use a color called “Prussian Blue”. I think it is by Modelflex.
Thx all. I’ll look into these to see which ones my LHS has.
And yes, I’ll post pics when the loco is painted. [;)]

If you jump over to WPF you’ll see some of the ones that I painted. Like I said, those were done in Floquil Dark Blue
