How do you post pictures?

I didn’t think it would be that hard to do, but I have no idea how to post pictures on this site.

I’ve got some great shots from riding the train out of Skagway Alaska in 09 that I’d love to share, but I’ve got to figure out how post em first.

You can upload images in the Photo Galleries. Otherwise, you have to upload them to a photo hosting site, such as photobucket or Google. Then you can create a new post, select “Insert Media” and include the URL to the image on the photo hosting site. Getting the URL of the image can be a pain and depends how each site does it.

Uploading a picture in the Photo Galleries looks a lot easier (I haven’t done it personally.)

Has anybody ever offered a reason why someone who wants to post photos or other material on this site has to go through an external host? I am on 14 other modeling forums, and all they require is to click on an attachments’ field and select a link to the item to be attached. When the reply is posted, the material is there. No need for an intermediary. Just seems like extra work.

Disk Space - Maybe Kalmbach does not want to host all of thise images?

A lot of people already have their pictures online at Google, Flickr, etc. So why upload it again?

Having said that, I think it would be good to have the option of doing either: upload a picture or use a link to a different site.

I think I figured it out…hope it works.

Great shot! I love how it shows the differing shades of colour between the nearer and further hills in the background. Now if we could only find a group of railfans to restore that engine!

I believe that locomotive is already slated for restoration. That shot was from the White Pass & Yukon Railway which has a full shop & has restored quite a bit of rolling stock & locomotives. This one might be beyond restoration!
