How do you power a stationary decoder

Im new to the hobby. I have a Digitrax Zephyr and have 6 remote Atlas turnouts
How does a stationary decoder get its power do I need to buy a seperate power pack or can i power it with my zephyr. If I need a power pack what do you suggest

It depends on the stationary decoder, some take power from the track. Others need a seperate power supply. Most of those for powering twin-coil switch machines need the extra power supply. The stationary decoder’s instructions will tell you what sort of power supply - usually just a wall-wart type. Use what they specify - you can get many sizes of wal-warts at Radio Shack.

I am am looking at the Lenz 150 they suggest Atlas Generator for $140 any
thing less expensive?

You know, they tell you EVERYTHING except the MINIMUM power required. Not to exceed 16V AC, not to exceed 45VA (at 15 volts this means 3 amps), but nothign about what the minimum requirements are. And (I’ll say it again) they say Digitrax manuals are bad. However, since it can output 3 amps on a pulse basis, it needs at least that much coming in.
Who’s trying to sell you an Atlas Generator for $140? Everywhere I’ve looked it’s $29.95. The NCE P515 is the same price but puts out 5 amps, so you’d have to follow the directions for power supplies which exceed 45VA.

Thanks for your help I was looking at the Atlas 332 from pricegrabber for $142
Found the 335 for $42
In your opinion would the Lenz ls150 and the Atlas Generator 335 work for me with 6 Atlas remote coil turnouts and Digitrax Zephyr
Thanks again

Yes, that will work fine.

The 332 is the entire Atlas DCC system, the Generator plus the Atlas Master command station. That would be a step backwards from the Zephyr. The 335 is just the Generator, that’s what you need.

Or here’s another one - see if you can buy a PS315 (same power supply as the Zephyr). It carries a $29.95 list price and so should be less. Just cut the plug off the end and you have a 15 volt 3 amp power suppy to power the LS150. Digitrax lists it as an item that is available seperately. Litchfield Station has it for $24. In fact under his listing for the LS150 Bruce even mentions the recommended power supply is the PS315.
