How fast do YUZ GYZ run your trains?

Ran trains last nite for about an hour and a half, NO PILE UPs. I was running my 2 MTH NYCs. A Hudson and the new Mikado, both with PS2. Had them running between 27 and 43 MPH. I kinda liked the slower speed was relaxing watching them in a slower mode. How fast do YUZ GYZ run your trains?

Usually slow, but sometimes real fast on the back straight and slowed up just enough to catch some air under the wheels on one side on the turns…[:O]

A nice easy pace looks better. Fast only to heat up an old smoke unit.

Always at slow-to moderate speeds. Never ran a loco so fast that it flew off the track or crashed. If I want to see that happen, I watch old Addams Family TV episodes [:P]

I’m at the age where I like the slower speeds. Every now and then an old Pullmor will come out and we crank it up a bit but with the advent of cruise more prototypical works for me.

Nice and easy mostly, esp with the tpc control, esp my general which has sounds and chuff etc. But, da kidz like to see 'em really hauling sometimes, so who am I to say no?

Casey Jones is the only way for me!!!

35-45 smph looks about right. The slower speeds seem to make the trains appear longer and a little more dramatic. Also, there’s the noise factor of having a 20 car train lapping the layout at a break-neck speed. That’s my vote.

Good question. Never thought much about it until I got my RMT Beep. Now, most Lionels run about the RMT speed. MPH?, don’t really know. Thanks for asking.

Afterthought: How do you tell MPH? Do you ask the engineer?

about 35 to 45 mph. If it is an all piggyback/container train, crank it up to 60 mph for a while. 25 diecast hoopers, 25 to 35 mph.

I run 'em at moderate(45-60 smph) most of the time, except when I want to hear my steamers barking while pulling a max consist. Then it’s 5 smph[:)], with the volume up as loud as it can go[:D].

I love to see how fast the magnetraction engines can go so I have a tendency so run those a little faster. The higher speed also gets the smoke unit going. I also try to make the passenger train go faster than the freight line. Most of the time its moderate speed so I can enjoy the lights . By the way, the plural of you is “youse”.

No, it’s “y’all”

Maybe it’s a Chicago inflection, after all, Laz does like Bears…

Right now I have three trains made up on the layout - Thomas’ local; Jame’s express, and Percy with a long freight - filled with real rocks he can barely pull. Gotta empty those trucks. So he runs ‘realistically’ slow. James goes full-bore, most of the time he races Thomas who has a slightly shorter run - with a lighter train so he always wins and is very smug. The trolleys run appropriately sedately –

Due to my skills at track laying, my track is all Class 9 (49 CFR 213.307(a)), we roll along at 200 MPH unless we are going through the city limits of Roger’s Corners. [(-D]

I run them slow to moderate, 20-35 mph. But the Better Half wants to see them full throttle, but hey If she likes that and it helps me to get more train stuff, then thats OK with me.

When I was younger it would of been like stated by Buckeye but now scince I’ve grown up it a lot slower as I love to hit bell and slow ever so slowly in reverse till about I get to the cars to connect to then speed up a little enough to get couplers to lock. and then bull out ever so slow of coarse you have to blow that horn pulling out so they know you pulling out.

Now the postwar engines probally a little faster as need to get that smoke going and a craw just doesn’t get it going right[:-^]

Normally at about 40-45 MPH but every now and then 70. It is fun to those trains running fast but the increased noise bothers me more than anything and my train room is a very quiet running room. The other problem at 70 MPH is that “pile ups” can happen faster [:)]

Well, I run the fast freight about 60 - 70 mph. The slow freight runs about 45. The passenger trains run about 60 mph. Sometimes with 80 mph bursts.

At 15-20 mph, a 2.0 powered train takes approx. 1min 20sec to complete one circuit on my CONNELLSVILLE SUB. Something about watching a slow freight snake and climb does it for me.
