How is the Belleville Christmas Model Railroad Show?

Hello,

who has gone to the Belleville Christmas Model Railroad Show. Curious how it compares to the Toronto train show. It is a 6 hour round trip from where I live and would appreciate input from fellow modellers that have attended this show.

Thank you

Frank

I haven 't heard anything negative about it, others say it isn’t bad. They claim on their website to be the biggest show in Eastern Ontario (for now, they may well be.)

Plus you can do some railfanning on the old GT right of way, which now has three tracks to accommodate the freight and VIA traffic the moves through Belleville constantly. Plus the CP mainline.

Google for Quinte train show and the website should appear.

The Belleville show is one of my favorites. Lot’s of vendors and lots of layouts of every scale usually. Like whats already been said, it"s one of the bigger shows around. I’ll be there Saturday…

I’m giving this a bump as some people may not be aware of it being this weekend.[:D]

Hello,

thank you for the replies. Will go for a drive tomorrow, looking forward to the show.

Frank, make sure you take the Highway 62 SOUTH exit. It’s easy to find and they have LOTS of signs out.

HI,

thank you for the advice TA462. I had the GPS in the car, and you are right they put up a lot of signs, very easy to find. It is a great show, lots of vendors and quite a few layouts.

Made the 500km+ round trip worth while.

I had fun. I picked up 3 Intermountain CNR 40’ boxcars, a 5 story building kit and a Norscot UPS truck. I went with 500 and only spent 100, lol. I think my wife was shocked.

Having never been to the show in Belleville, I can’t say much but from what I have heard, it is not a bad show.

Having attended the show in Kingston several times, a little small, but you do find things there that you don’t see at other shows in the region, like used tinplate. I bought an electroluminescent sign there, at a decent price, plus a VH Selkirk in pieces I plan to rehabilitate and paint.

Next up: Kingston. Plus the small show at Mont Bleu Ford in Gatineau in mid January.

Also there is the annual flea market in Ottawa this February, on the 4th. Picked up some decent stuff there, like a brass covered hopper, Rapido passenger equipment, and even a display case. Just other modellers reducing their inventory or getting rid of things they no longer want. I even got a limited edition assembled craftsman model of the Balaclava saw mill, which will have a place of honour on my layout. The mill is still there in the ghost town of Balaclava, just Google it.

See http://www.ovar.ca/Events/events.htm for details and directions to all these events. And more…

I visit the Kingston show every other year. It is VERY small but it has some good vendors. The Paris show in January is ok as well as the Port Hope one in February, Cobourg in March and London’s. I think Kingston changed their date because it was usually after the London show.
