Somebody gave me a 20-someodd-year old bottle of Life-Like track cleaning fluid. Just curious, does the fluid ever expire, per say? And if it does, how long would an unused bottle keep? I don’t desperately need it, but it wouldn’t be bad to have an extra bottle around.
Per say?
Around here, it would keep forever, as I don’t clean track. [swg]
However, if it hasn’t been left open, it should keep for the same length of time. If you have doubts about its effectiveness, why not try it the next time track crud rears its ugly head?

No, don’t do it! Life Like track cleaner can become highly unstable if left for that long. It’s like nitroglyceryn. Just opening the bottle could cause an explosion.
Sounds preferable to cleaning track, in my opinion. [(-D]

That happened to me with a jar of Dill pickles once,[swg]

doctorwayne does not clean his track so he re-gifted to me an unopened bottle of Life-Like track cleaning fluid. I opened it, drank it, and my acid reflux went away immediately. That was 5 years ago, and I haven’t had a problem since. [8-|]

I think most track cleaning fluids are just rubbing alcohol, so as long as it doesn’t all evaporate it should keep forever.
If that’s the case, it’s fortunate that my friend Rich drank only enough to require glasses:
I’ve always told others that they’re mistaken when they call him a “rubby”, as he’s only a ha-fast one. [(-D]
Wayne (definitely not the most interesting man in the world - I don’t always drink, but when I do, I prefer alcohol from Ireland) [swg]
Wayne,
We have to go out sometime and have a few shots of Jameson, with our beer’s…[(-D][:P]

Stay thirsty, my friend ! [B]

The only thing I do with Life-Like track cleaner is throw it away. In my opinion it’s worthless. 70% alcohol does a much better job and 91% absolutely blows it away.
Who uses track cleaning fluid anyway?[%-)]
If you run them all the time (with metal, not plastic wheels) You shouldn’t need to clean them! [:-,]
But that bottle of life like track cleaning fluid will make an acceptable door stop!
Depends on the size of the door. My door stop is a 16 inch length of 60# rail (which also serves as an anvil.)
Never use fluid. I gleemed once. Since then the most I’ve done is run a dry paper towel along the rails.
Now my little can of Mother’s Mag Wheel Polish is getting on toward grandmotherhood. I wonder how long that will last - chronologically, that is. At the rate I use it my estate might run out some time in the 27th century…
