I have been active for about five years.
See? I TOLD you I like your polls! Actually, I hit the wrong box, it should have been 40-60 years, which kind of lets everyone know how old I am (I started seriously when I was 14, back when Athearn still had rubber-band drive diesels and Silver Streak made wooden refrigerator cars out of WOOD!).

Wow!!! You’re that old???
cold. very cold.
There are a few of us that would fit the 0-2 months category.
It is great to see new model railroaders enjoying the world’s greatest hobby. I myself have been active for barely five years. Most of that time i was an Armchair Modeler, for i had no equipment, just my dad’s old Model Railroaders. About two and a half years ago i bought an Athearn GP38-2 lettered for the BNSF. That jump-started my modeling adventures. I recently switched to CSX.
I should say I’ve been on the sidelines for 40-60.
I have G,HO,N and Lionel.

Hey, on the sidelines counts. What do you think i read before i could use a power pack???[:)]

10-20 yrs for me. about 7 consecutive past yrs and then some time off before 6 years before that.
I was born in 1961. It was in the late 60’s or early 70’s, I can’t remember my exact age , but my dad got me an N scale set from Atlas for my birthday. He also bought one for himself and he started building a layout in his bedroom. it went along 3 walls with a lift off section that went over the bed. (End to end)
Mom wasn’t too happy about it but since part was actually mine, she put up with it.
It’s amazing I can even remember that far back. lol
I have been modeling for about 4 years now.
I was born with a train in my hand.[:D] Years wise, that would be 30 yrs. Actually, I don’t remember when I got my first train, so, all my life is a good answer.[:)][8D][^][:D]

Wow. There is so much diversity among the hobby. I myself, being 13, have just begun to delve into the world of Model Railroading.
I had to wait until I was married and had my own house with a big basement. Now I wish I had a bigger house with a bigger basement. I’ve been building for 31 years now and will be starting over again this summer on my 7th layout. It will follow the KISS method.

33 years for me and I also remember the Silver Streak kits made of wood and the Urich metal cars. SInce I didn’t do diesels then, I didn’t have Athearn’s with the rubber band drive. But I did have the Tyco engines with the rubber tires.
Enjoy

I’ve been interested in trains since I received my first Tyco HO set at five. I became a more serious modeler when I was around 12. I am 17 now and working on my first large layout in N scale. I became really interested in BNSF after I saw “The Great Train Story” in the Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago. http://www.msichicago.org/exhibit/great_train_story/
I voted 10-20 years, but for me that’s most of my life. I’m 18 now and have loved trains all of my life and have had model trains for most of it.
I may be young, but I’m familiar with Silver Streak. I have an unassembled Silver Streak Swift reefer kit.
I have only just started MR’ing.
