How many guys log onto this forum while at work or School?

I was wondering how many people love the forum so much that when they are at work they have to log on to read some topics and post some? I know that I do. I am self employed but while “working” on a project I just feel the need to see what is going on. It is pretty addicting for sure. I feel like if I am away from the forum too long I will miss something ya know? When usually all there is are these really corny topics that were posted throught the day. If you do log onto the forum while at work is is permitted or is it one of those quick checks without anyone knowing?

I log in alot of times from work. My work place is just alittle different than most though. I am captain of a tugboat. I log in alot of times from the boat at sea.

I only do it when my wife isn’t looking. We co-own a store. But since she only works part time…

3 questions from a geezer who actually sat at the drafting table from 8 to 4:30.(what a fool I was) 1.: Do people really fool around on the computer when they are supposed to work? 2. what’s this with radios blasting away all over the office? 3. who says you can run outside every hour for a smoke? 4.(I’m cheating) when does anyone ever do any work???

Since I’m the VP of my corp., to get a project completed I sometimes work from 10:00 PM to 2:00AM in the morning (wth the radio blasting Coast to Coast AM) - this is after a full days work. Sometimes I take a break, go to the beach and I just vegitate. For me it’s not about a legalistic 9 to 5 but more of getting the projects completed on time and per customers expectations.

Forgot to mention, I do check out the forums during work. It’s a nice break.

You needent ask ! I do it way too much.[8D][8D]

Yes sometimes when need I break from students or school work. It is a good way to refre***he thought process.

While I’m at work while between checking e-mail, phone calls, unloading trucks, loading trucks, pulling parts off the shelf, putting parts on the shelf. Dealing with people of all sorts. At my work, either you are pulling your hair out or pulling your d*** out.
And right now, I’m at home. I want to do something with model railroading but I don’t want to dive into something that’s going to get me geeked all night. So I’m just looking to chat about M.R.

Dewayne,
For someone who has only been a member for three days, this addiction to the
forum must have come on pretty sudden for you.

I check in when I get up in the morning and when I get home from work.
Of course, I don’t have a computer on the jobsite. And my office is my truck.

I work at a residential mental health program, which is kind of like being a fireman. There is a certain amount of routine work to be done, but most of the job is just being there waiting for the bell to ring. When the bell rings, you drop what you’re doing and go put out the fire. Then you go back to the firehouse, do your paperwork and wait for the next call.

That’s kind of what I do. I log in occasionally but drop everything when I am needed to help someone at work.

The convention of employers letting people use the Internet for personal uses came along when employers discovered that if you let your employees surf the Web, and stay at work after their regular hours, generally they would stay later and do more work than they otherwise would. It is also a pain in the neck to police, and essentially is treated like a job perk in many offices. Of course, not everyone honors this, and there are always issues about what is appropriate to view when at work.

I log in to the MR forums at work because it’s a pretty wholesome site…

I guess I approach this topic a little differently. Working deep nights as a Police Officer allows me the chance to drive all over the city…ummm sometimes chasing bad guys…sometimes chasing trains… Fortunately our crime rate is low and the calls for service drop off after the evening rush hour. So if I’m not out railfanning on my days off, then I can often times be on “patrol” near the local rail yard digital camera at the ready. To answer the question for the forum, yes we have laptops in the squad car…the downloads are a little on the slow side, but then again I’ve got till 6 in the morning…O.K. and one other vent…getting an image to actually display on the MR forum is about as easy as installing DCC in a Z scale loco

My job as an IT slave sets me in front of a computer from 9-5. Sometimes it’s hot 'n heavy, and I won’t have a spare moment all day (which might be 14+ hours on a REALLY bad one…). Other times, I feel like I could spend the whole day messing around. (OK, never really gets that slow, but when doing same 'ol same 'ol maintenance or documentation is sure SEEMS like it.)

When I need a quick break, esp. during lunch, I quick flip over to the forum for a couple of minutes. No problem, in general, although my manager has an exceptional ability to come in 5 seconds AFTER I hit the URL. [:o)]

Anymore, work (midnight shifts at a small police dept, much like Mike’s) is the only place I check in at. There’s not much in the way of major crime going on around here, and the chief is very supportive of having fun at work as long as calls get answered and paperwork gets filed. I rarely work the road so I have a bunch of time to do whatever gets me through the night.
I have even considered dropping internet access at home, just can’t seem to get that done, there’s always a reason to keep it just one more month.

Paid to surf[:p] Seriously, I spend all my time on computers in some form or another due to the nature of my work. I drop into the forum before the staff arrives in the morning, between calls/meetings/et al and at lunch time.

I spend most of my time in front of the computer, often doing such thrilling things as reviewing technical documents or research for other technical documents. So, I break the tedium by logging on here. The forum is also a good diversion from rogue telcons.

My general opinion of telcons is summed up by the notepad I got from despair.com: Meetings: none of us is as dumb as all of us.

I would never commit an impropriety such as participating in this forum while my students are a dilligently working Hey Johnny stop stabbing Jeremy with that pencil! on their respective assignments. Furthermore actions such as these, or that vile fantasy baseball, that so many participate in in lieu of their designated work duties are simply despicable. (Hold on Salvador just lit the trash can on fire.)
Ahh, who am I kidding. It is nice to escape a bit now and then.

I’m gettin paid over 20.00 an hour to read this stuff.
HHHHhhhhhhaaaaaaa!!!

Well, last term I had a gap between lectures on Fridays - one finished at 10am then the next was at 4pm. Lurking in the corner of the physics library (not my department, but it was quiet, warm, and empty!) and surfing the web was a good way to use up time. The fun part is seeing the expression of the person at the next PC when they notice the names of the sites you’re using (this one, ebay, walthers, railpictures, etc…).

Now it’s a case of surfing when I’m bored, which is quite often!

I work at a water treatment plant and all i do all day is a couple of water tests and then sit in front of a computer that controls the plant …it’s hours of bordom with moments of sheer terror…so , i get to play on the computer while operating the plant…is that multi-tasking or what?..I am thankful for the company letting us use the internet…it sure beats playing computer solitaire for 8 hours straight…chuck

Ahem
