the zephyr, a russian steamer and a gp38 at the Irm in illinois and not too long ago a dash 9 with two remotes in the rear and a sd40-2 at a location and place that shall remain nameless.
Sadly, nothing moving, only a couple of museum pieces, but if any engineers are moving through the Boulder area I would love a ride [:)]

None recently but have was on the footplate’s of CN 6167, CN 6218 both 4-8-4 Northerns under steam and CN 6060 a 4-8-2 under steam and CPR 2860 a 4-6-4 Royal Hudson all while operating. Also have been in the cab of a CB&Q E7A at 100 mph at the head of an Empire Builder between La Crosse and Prairie Du Chien. Rode a Milwaukee Road Bi-Polar between Seattle Union Station and Renton, Washington. I have also ridden a CN Turbo in the Club car directly behind the engineer watching everything don’'t know if that counts or not. Ridden in the cabs of numerous CN GMD FP9A and MLW FPA-4 passenger units in eastern Canada. Ridden every class of CN Newfoundland Railway narrow gauge diesels. Have had cab rides in GN GP-9s, GP-20s, GP-30s, E-7, F3A, F7A and SDP-45s. Never had a cab ride on the NP, or UP as they were not as accessible as the GN was in the Seattle area where I grew up. GN passenger department was most receptive to passenger fans at one time and every cab ride I had on the GN was with a pass. The CN cab rides were with permission as well. The Milwaukee Bi-Polar ride was without railroad permission just an engineer with grandsons as well. The CB&Q trip was with permission. What was my favorite cab ride on a diesel the big noisy SDP-45 going through Cascade tunnel that I rode from Seattle to Wenatchee before reboarding the Empire Builder itself. for the remainder of my trip to St. Paul.
I’ve only been on 2 different locomotives because in Meridian, MS there are few other kinds of locos that come by on the KCS rail line. The KCS GP-40, SD40-2, SD60s. I’ve been on the UP-SD40. I was promised a Cab ride with my uncle months ago, but he hasn’t had time, and the fact that I’m in college now makes it even harder. But I made my visits to the trains while they were parked on the side of the road. There used to be a RR by my home and I’d go over there everyday after school and play around. I would spasm-out when I heard the air blow out of the compressors, or the smooth sound of the Engines. I’m very fond of the KCS GP40s! [:D]

Just one, but it’s stuck with me for years. I was 8 years old, my great-uncle Tom was a brakeman on the SP, worked out of Truckee CA to Norden, over Donner Pass. He helped me into the cab of an AC-6 Cab-Forward 4-8-8-2 running as helper over the summit, and there I was. Darn near wet my pants I was so excited. All I remember is that it was NOISIER than all get-out, and my front view was the end of a boxcar, and three miles west of Stanford Curve, everything was obliterated by snowsheds–though I got a good view of Donner Lake WAY DOWN THERE a couple of times. The AC-6 swayed, chortled, pumped, sounded like the end of the world and it smelled WONDERFUL! I remember the fireman giving me a lecture (shouting, actually) about how long it took to bore Donner Summit tunnel. We cut off at Norden, turned on the turntable in the sheds and rode light back to Truckee. I don’t know how fast we went, but it seemed like every curve, we were going to leave the rails and whack through the snowsheds. After that, every time I saw a flat-faced AC 4,5,6, I’d get a lump in my throat. Loved those cab-forwards, they had a sound like no other locomotive I’ve ever heard. If steam locomotives are music, then these guys are a combination of Mahler and Richard Strauss.
Well what I thought was an IC unit in Manitowoc this week turned out to be a WC unit with a set of IC style air horns. It is WC 3004! Been a long time since this unit has been around Wisconsin. Unit was down in Memphis for the longest time.
Anyways, add WC 3004 to the list of locomotives I have been on…thank you friendly crew!

a BN (green) when I was a cop attending a 3 day class on investigating car/train collisions. It was an absolute hoot. We(officers) were given the loco ride so we could see what the train crew sees as they are flying along.
I was impressed by how clean the cab was on this loco. Absolutely spotless.

WE RODE IN THE CAB ON NUMEROUS TIMES OVER A 2 OR 3 YEAR PERIOD FROM VICTOR, TO CANANDIGUA , NY EVEN HAVE A PICTURE OF ME AT ABOUT 6 YEARS OLD PULLING ON THE AIR HORN FOR A GRADE X-ING BOY DID THAT CORD PULL HARD
More and more every day. As of this posting I am the bottom photo on the Rochelle web cam (BNSF 4525 passing through the diamond at 9/10 ,1:11 P.M. heading toward Cicero, IL). A couple of weeks ago I went through Rochelle on BNSF 7007 and 7008(old BN paint SD40-2’s back to back, how they ended up together who knows).
UP DDA40X dont remember the number But its the only one that still runs today.
I wasn’t on it but i leaned in the cab of the UP 3985 and i also looked in the boiler of the UP 844 becasue they were overhauling it at the time.
