How many cars were in the 70s Lionel Milwaukee Road old style passenger car series? If you can list with numbers and names on the sides.
If I remember correctly there was 3 in the set, then 2 coupon cars, plus the campaign car and the baggage car then the diner. May have been just one coupon car, memory is a little fuzzy., I know that I have 7 of the Milwaukee baby madisons.
MPC / Lionel produced a number of “Baby Madison” car types in the 1970’s including:
Baggage Car
Baggage / Coach Combine
Pullman / Coach
Diner
Observation
Campaign Observation (an observation car decorated for an election campaign)
There were a variety of cars offered for the Milwaukee Road and the PRR, afterwards sets tended to be fairly consistent and included a baggage car, baggage / coach combine, two coaches, a diner (often as an add-on), and an observation car.
I’m guessing that one of the forum members probably has a complete roster - I think CTT had an article on the Baby Madisons sometime in the 90’s, if you ask Bob, he can probably check the article index for you.
I think that the Milwaukee 9500 series was the largest set of the 70’s era passenger cars. I am going to take a stab from memory, but this is what I have. FDR Campaign car, City of Chicago, City of Milwaukee, City of Tacoma, City of Aberdene, City of Minneapolis, REA Express combo car-9506, and the baggage car, 9522. There was also an additional car from the 80’s that was slightly different in color that was to add to the set. I can’t remember the car number and I am not near it now. With the campaign car, there were two open platform observation cars. The Minneapolis was a dinning car. There are at least 9 in total.

Does uncataloged literally mean that there was not a single LIONEL issued publication with the Passenger Cars in them or does uncataloged mean that they were in a Lionel issued Flyer that shows all the cars? Which one is it? That is a large number of cars for Lionel to not produce any print preview for future orders.

What would be the best locomotive to run them behind?
Well, I suppose you could put a locomotive behind them and just push but somehow I don’t think it will look too good. [:)] There are a number of possibilities, my favorite is the MPC Milwaukee “Lil Joe” electric. Its colors match the cars as does its proportions.
