How many model vehicles do you have ? - all scales welcome!

There is something going on about model vehicles on this model RAILROAD forum the last days, I wondered how many vehicles do you have parked on your lay-out or have in your collection ?

I have just started to model the US prototype so my priority at the moment is not to collect vehicles. First I want to run a few trains and after that I’ll see what will happen.

I have a truck kit, but that’s it. When the layout is a little further along I’ll be getting more.
Enjoy

I have about 12 vehicles right now.
A trio of Athearn Stake trucks, an Athearn Coke delivery truck, a Ferrari Testarossa, F40 & a Lamborghini Countach from Monogram & a 67 Dodge Charger & a 59 Chrysler 300c.

Well, since your poll question asks about all scales, I’ll bite:

HO scale (for model RR): somewhere in the region of 125. Mostly newer Mini Metals, with a good dose of Jordan, Roco and Busch. I’ve also got a lot of the Woodland Scenics Caterpillar vehicles, considering I’m modeling the Cat plant in Peoria! (well, a small chunk of it, anyway)

N scale: around 50 or so. Mostly Mini Metals.

1/76th scale (WWII wargaming): 150 or so. One full tank and motorized infantry for the US, Germany and UK. A smattering of Italian, Russian and Japanese trucks and tanks.

1/285th: well over 15,000. I have a full, 1:1 strength Soviet motor rifle division with all four regiments built to each vehicle, based on the 1986 US TO&E reports on the Soviet army. I have over 4000 trucks alone! I also have a heavy dose of US and UK troops, as well as other stuff, including 500 or so WWII.

If you’re modeling any time after 1910 or so, and model any sort of urban area, you really need to have a bunch of vehicles to gove your layout some sort of life. I generally see modelers with way too few vehicles and PEOPLE on their layouts. They look like ghost towns.

All 1/18 die cast to be placed on a large scale indoor layout under construction.

'57 Chevy Bel Air
'52 Ford Pickup
'56 VW Beetle
WW2 Willys Jeep
and 2 period Harley Bikes

I also have in 1/18 but am not sure on using on the layout:(as space is at a premium)

Ed “Big Daddy” Roth’s masterpiece “Beatnick Bandit”
and a "56 BMW Isetta and two other '50’s bubble cars

also an LGB toy dumptruck i’m going to try to bash into something realistic looking (unless I find better looking dumptruck)

Well, I counted that I have 136 vehicles on the roads of my layout or else being hauled on the trains.

if your layout has roads and industries you need cars so I have somewhere between 30-40 cars, trucks and tractor/trailers on my layout. But what I sorely miss are affordable buses from the 60’s to 80’s. I once more make a plea to the people from Herpa, Busch or whoever wants to listen to modeller’s needs
to create one or two US busmodels from that era.

No vehicles, no roads, my LPP walk or take a train.

Hum??? Well? I have I believe to be about 30 Roco military minitures that I pull on flat cars, 24 passenger cars of various types 9 or 10 passenger trucks, To school buses(one of those is a 79 bluebird that you can get from walthers Nieuweboer) 14 semis,7 work trucks,9 fire trucks, 4 tractors,2 combines, 18 construction vehicles. This is a conservitive estimate. Total 118 vehicles NOT ENOUGH!!! Even if you were out in the country you would still see 2 or 3 vehicles some where.

HO for my layout around 55.
Built 1/25 scale kits, (cars, trucks trailers, some construction, incl heavily 'bashed or scratchbuilt,) 80
1/24 diecast (Danbury mint) 19
1/25 unbuilt kits, around 80-90
1/25 diecast construction, forklift, etc 15
1/64 diecast Ertl trucks, tractors, 24
some Road Champs, look about N scale, 20
other misc scales, 10 or so
Hot Wheel/ Matchbox sized cars, must be 500

Seems I kinda like scale vehicles. None of the above scale models (not incl HotWheels) are race cars or military. Just not my cup-o-tea

For a great vehicle site to see nice HO sized vehicles go to
http://.1-87vehicles.org

They have lots of stuff to see including some nicely done 60’s Matchbox truck conversions, so nice in fact I went to eBay and gathered a few project vehicles to convert.

A month or 2 ago I posted a topic looking for a source of HO truck wheels for conversions. One member, Bob’s his name turned me on to Tyls Small Scale Truck Sales. He sells the great looking wheels and truck frames found on Herpa Trucks at reasonable prices and he is very nice to work with, a great communicator. At the already mentioned website, just type in Tyl’s into the Google search space provided. Dan

About 50 on the 5 HO modules alone, plus more is storage.
Plus another dozen n scale cars, and about 25 O scale die-cast cars
As far as the tinplate trains, I havn’t opened the boxes since I was 15, I know there is a bunch, but I cant remember now, too much gray hair.[:0]

Has anyone else here noticed, we need an old fogey kinda smiley?
Maybe something with white hair, like some of us?[:D][:D][:D][:D]

If I park my 1/10th scale R/C cars on the layout, does it count?

I have a couple of cars parked on the city streets of my layout, as well as two delivery trucks–one REA van and one general delivery truck. I need to find some Forties-appropriate semitrailers for an LCL truck/train interchange freight station that is on The Drawing Board.

If you have a team track , trucks are perfectly appropriate for model railroads–they needed something to get freight from the team track to off-track customers!

Everyone in my world is required to take the train.

Sure it’s your world! would be real MONSTER trucks !

Bit late but I could not answer my own poll because I was disconnected from the net only a few minutes after I posted this topic. ( lasted almost 3 days)
I have about 30 - 40 1940 - 1960 HO cars both german and us made, die cast metal and plastic
allso recently got some kits but did not find time to build them @@#@ fora!
btw these kits are made of clear plastic should I paint them from the inside, to get a nice shiny look on the outside ? Any advice welcome
My RC buggy I keep far from the layout, it is leaking fuel and oil all the time.
thanks for all the replies!

I HAVE SIX MODEL TRAINS COMPLETE SETS,I HAVE ONLY TWO SETS GOING FOR NOW. ONE IS A COUNTRY SETTING AND THE OTHER IS THE BIG CITY SCENE. IN THE CITY SCENE I HAVE NINE HOUSES AND A POLICE STATION&FIRE DEPT&POST OFFICE&SCHOOL& A CHURCH& A HOSPATIL&A TRAIN STATION& A TRAIN DEPOT& A AIRPORT WITH FOUR PLANES. AND A BASKET&ROBBIN. IT IS A PRETTY GOOD SIZE.

Only 6.

Too many! At least 60, most being 1:64, with a few larger and one HO scale Ford truck.

Now my cars are being put in the closet to make room for model railroad rolling stock and engines.

In my world, railroads phased out automobiles, not the other way around!
