How many new TRAINS under the tree this XMAS Morn?

Nice old photo of Central Vermont 415 from my son and family. Gift certificate from wife to LHS. Haven’t decided, switches, scenic material, kits. Plenty of time to think.

Merry Christmas to all,

I got the Blackgold Asphalt Plant from Walthers and Athearn Conrail SD60 6852 which I have already added the CSXT marking so it can all be part of my CSX roster. I know… 6852 when to NS but it is my railroad [:P]

Last week I did get an early christmas gift of one the new Genesis UP painted SD70ACe

I got another Athearn MP15AC (completely unexpected gift!) and a calendar and t-shirt for my favorite road. Good haul!

No train stuff [:(] but I did get a nice $120 to spend on whatever I want (aka trains!) What should I get? I don’t really have anything but track and roadbed and a DCC controller at this point…

I got a bag of coal.

Anyone want to come over and help me take a couple hammers and break the chunks down into smaller chunks and use it in my gondola cars?

If you’re into diesels, get a couple DCC OnBoard locos in the chessie system liveries…I have both a GP7 and A GP40 in Chessie System colors! LOve them both!

If your’e into steam, well, Chessie never had any left over from C&O I don’t believe, but you can get a C&O steamer or a B&O steamer. Only ONE Chessie system steamer ever ran and it was a heritage model from C&O they ran in black with Chessie colors logo on it for special excursions! Occasionally you can find a model of one floating around…

The CEO, aka wife, invested in a Spectrum undec USRA heavy mountain with Tsunami sound. There appears to be good times coming on the Bethany & West Liberty Railroad in the future.

Greetings all,

No new trains for me. I did get left alone for a good part of the day to work on my layout without having to be called for one thing after another.

My son got more Thomas wooden trains and track.

We were both given a book about trains that has pull outs and flip up sections.

Christopher

Nothing under the tree, but a model railroader friend and I exchanged gifts. He gave me a Micro Trains N scale 50’ gondola and I gave him a Micro Trains N scale 40’ box car.

And just before Christmas I finally received a locomotive that I mail ordered a long time ago. It was one of those pre-order deals. It’s an Atlas HO scale Alco HH660 switcher. Being the Alco switcher nut that I am, I thought I’d have at least one example of the HH series.

I have a funny story to tell about what I got under our tree. I had been using 3rd PlanIt to design my yet to be layout on an old computer. This fall the ‘old’ computer decided it was time to quit. No problem - I would just take my files wisely saved on disc and set the 3rd Planit program up on my new computer. Except, I could not find my 3rd PlanIt CD! Looked High and low - no CD. So, I said to my wife that what I wanted for Christmas was a new 3rd PlanIt program. She said “great idea!”, so I ordered it. Randy (who owns and operates 3rd PlanIt) sends you a temporary copy so when you buy the program you can immediately go to work on it, which I did. So far, no problem! Note that the temporary program is only good for 30 days. My CD with the new program on it and my new serial number did not arrive in the mail as promised. So, I sent Randy an e-mail asking where the heck my CD was. Immediately after sending said e-mail I complained to my wife about Randy’s failure to deliver as promised and the fact that I had sent an e-mail to him regarding same. She immediately blushed! She admitted that the missing CD was in fact under the tree for me to receive as a gift on X-mas morning - she had intercepted it in the mail. Next step was to send Randy an apology for jumping all over him when he had done exactly what he promised to do. Now my new 3rd PlanIt program is installed and all is well!

Happy New Year everyone!

Dave

I have received a lump of coal every year for the last 50 years with a note from Santa stating that as soon as I have enough coal to fill a tender he’ll bring me the engine, now I’m starting to wonder how old I’ll be before I receive my shiny, new engine!!!

Mark

I received 4 Bachmann N scale H16-44’s as well as a couple of ATLAS RS’s…[swg]

…oh…and a whole bunch of N scale building kits[swg]

No motive power but I did get 2 re-pro PRR Number plates & 2 books that I wanted.

Sam

I should have added so others could see the number plates are from KZ craft. Website:http://www.kzcraft.com/Products.aspx?ProductTypeID=17

I have no affiliation with them…

I got a Walthers Railroad Shop kit and a old Athearn Brewers Retail delivery truck that I’ve been looking to find for years from my wife (don’t know where or how she got it) and a gift certificate from my mother in law for 125 bucks to my LHS. I’m not sure what I’m going to use it on, probably train stuff, lol.

No train related items for me, not even coal. But I did get the Good Eats 2 cookbook (love it) and the promise that I won’t be bothered while I work on the layout today!

Seems my brother in law and nephew may be getting the train bug. Over thanksgiving we looked through the Walthers catalog and yesterday the broinlaw was reading my MRR mags. Could become a nice present to have some company while playing with trains.

Maybe I’ll loan him my Spectrum 2-8-0 and Prodigy and some track while I work away on my layout

No rolling stock or locos for me, just a lot of scenery stuffs.

Liam, got a used brass Pennsy 4-4-2 steamer, an accurail bi-level open deck auto carrier & an Athearn RTR BCR caboose

Gordon

I had to order it myself but I got this from my other half:

I got:

N scale: Kato P42 Amtrak + 4 superliner cars

Ho Scale: MTH Sd70M-2 NS2649 (Opened it last week)

My brother is an armor modeler, my dad used to be in N scale so my mom has a good idea about things, and the girlfriend likes to go to shows with me so they do a pretty good job.

Brother got me the City Classics Smallman Street warehouse. Building a layout set in Pittsburgh having a kit made in Pittsburgh of a building that mimics a Strip District structure is nice. He also got me some track and a Model Power smokestack, to see what I do with that.

Mom got me one of those big Athearn 33k gallon LPG tank cars. The list I’d sent out when she’d requested one had listed not only a specific roadname but a car number too. Not only did she find the type locally, she even found the number I wanted in what used to be my LHS before I moved away from home. That had to take some diligent work in the shelves of rolling stock.

The girlfriend gave me Walther’s Merchants Row I. I’d mentioned something about doing a street scene on our mantel and she liked the building’s look. She also gave me an Exactrail Waffle side boxcar. I’d requested a specific number, in SOU colors. On our first trip together, we saw a long cut of SOU waffles, so I wanted one that was still in SOU colors in 2008. One of the Exactrail one was and I’d wanted it. So she tracked it down. Her mother also gave e a new Dremel Moto-tool to replace my old one that has seen better days.
