How much for a 20 year Old Lifelike??????????

Just curious on how much a 20 year old CN Lifelike engine is worth that has slight weathering on a first attempt…sold an old one of mine on Ebay

Cary

$5 IF your lucky.

Its worth what you got for it [:D]

And how much did you get for it [?]

[2c][:D]

I was thinking more like [2c][:D]

received 15 for it…the good thing is it is a very good engine, just not for my layout anymore as I plan on going DCC in the next couple months…makes the same noises as my Athearns…and by the way…do all Athearns have that same noise???

Cary

Most of the older Athearn Blue Box loco’s have that growl. A certain amount of noise reduction can be achieved if you service the power train.

The HO market is latest and greatest driven. When a newer / better model comes out, it almost always lowers the value of the previous model. With the exception of Lionel HO, there is not much of a collector market, as yet. The running ability has a lot to do with this. Most of the HO guys are operators.

There are a few collectors buying Tyco and other early models. They must be placing it on a shelf. I cannot imagine many are trying to operate with it but to each his own.

Perhaps at some point in time the early Life-Like may gain a following but you have to remember there were tons of these built. When supply exceeds demand you have a glut and prices will be down. Obviously NIB will always bring the highest dollar. If you got $15 for it you did good.

Only thing I’d add is it depends on the loco/brand/road name. As an example, I need another E8 to match the one I got off e-bay in my Frisco logo. Produced by Proto 2K in 1994. Nice runner, but will need to convert to DCC. Got mine for what I thought was a reasonable $$, but a companion E8A I recently bid on and I got the highest bid had a RESERVE!! which I wouldn’t meet(not going to tell you what it was, but believe me, though I could have afforded it, no way was I going to stoop to that amount). So, as discussed above, depends on initial production run #, how many still around, any repeat runs since(which is why my E8’s are going for so much–there haven’t been any), etc.

Jim

The other exception I have seen is GG1’s. With people peddling Marklin G’s for $400.00 and BLI G’s for $250.00 the cost of Pemco G’s is higher than when introduced and Rivarossis have doubled.

Plus shipping of course! Well done.

What was it by the way? Any photos?

And yep, all my older Athearns sound like light duty coffee grinders [{(-_-)}] , that is why I really liked the Atlas units (FP7, SD’s, GP’s), they made good fodder for re-powering other units.

About [2c], but if you recieved $15 for it, good for you, bad for the guy who bought it.
