How much is this loco worth? (Photos)

I’m thinking of selling this locomotive (edited by selector) and need to know how much it is worth. Here are the features.

  • Athearn
  • TCS T1 decoder
  • forward headlights
  • rarely run, no abuse
  • light weathering on roof

Thanks in advance,

Analog AMD-103’s sell for around 40$. I’d say 40-60?

Well, the T1 alone sells for $22, plus the light, which wasn’t the stock one, that would’ve burned out with DCC probably.

not if the seller (or previous owner, whoever) wired the light(s) to the decoder correctly, and/or added the correct resistor for the particular installation…

I bought it new, and installed the decoder and lights. Was a big pain trying to get the wires soldered to the frame to ground it![D)]

OHHHHH [banghead]

I misread your initial post Ty – I read it as if you found the loco on ebay and was wondering what it should cost so you don’t get burned.

Why’d you have to solder the wires to the frame to ground the lights? I thought the TCS T1’s had (basic) light control on them as well as motor.

Might have been easier to drill out a small hole and use a 2-56 (or smaller) screw to secure teh wires to the frame.

Not ground the lights, but most Athearns have this funny habit of grounding everything to the frame.

ah… right… THAT problem… still think a 2-56 screw would have been easier…[:)]

Definetly. Trouble is I don’t have the proper tools to drill it.

Oh, and the matter is settled, BTW. Selling it to a friend from a different forum.

Thank you for the help![bow]

That’s $5 more than what you can get them for if you know where to shop.

Do you have the missing parts? It isnt worth much incomplete.

Missing parts? The only ones I’m aware of are the lenses for the ditch/classification/whatever-those-are-for lights.

Those would be missing parts. You are also missing the steps all around.

Ah. I don’t beleive I have them, although I’ll have to check my bin to make sure. I seriously doubt I still have them. (my dad and I got this loco and put it together when I was about 7 or 8.)

Anyway, the buyer is a friend of mine, and has seen the photos. I guess he’s okay with it.

Is that ball-point pen numbering on the front? Interesting; haven’t seen that before!

Not sure, I don’t remember numbering it. From what I can see, it looks more like pencil, and I can barely make out “811” as the loco number, which seems to be correct. I’ve seen a prototype photo of the real 811, and it looks the same. That was one of the only ones without the intentional fading out of the stripes near the rear of the loco.

You’d be lucky at this point to get $10 bucks out of it…

And why is this?

Methinks Harvord…

Dont be so quick to paste Al onto any post that doesnt agree with you.

Here is the thing, you have an item that is USED, DAMAGED (weathering is not always a positive) and INCOMPLETE. If you took the time to find the parts, remove the ink from the front numberboard (that shouldnt be there) and made sure that it ran very well with the decoder, then you have something worth about 40-50 dollars. As it stands now, I wouldnt expect to pay more than 25-30 dollars for it, most of that being the decoder value(again depends how WELL the install was done).
