how much should I pay for a proto 2000 SD9

I found a proto 2000 SD9 for $75.99 would it be a good deal or about average.
I dont know a lot about the pricing on them so any information would help.

It’s up to you, but it is an older loco (2002 or earlier). Check out the LL archive for the release date for the particular road:

Kinda depends on how scarce that model is, and how much you want it !

it hasn’t been taken out of the box yet and sounds like its pretty new thanks, Floyd

Do a quick search of a few online hobby shops that carry it, and compare the price. Try discounttrainsonline, toytrainheaven, walther’s, etc.

At least, that’s what I normally do when trying to judge prices on stuff.

22 SD9’ were listed on eBay as of this posting. Click on the huge link below and then refre***he page for the latest.

A brand new undec P2K SD9 was at $20 and a decorated N&W one with a buy it now price of $49. That one was the highest priced decorated unit, so $79 is way too much to spend.

I wouldn’t pay that much for a P2K all the ones I have (6) I didn’t pay no more that $50 bucks and that was on e-bay in the past 3yrs.Just check around ,trust me you’ll find it less expensive.

$75.99 is way to much…[}:)]
These units usually go for $50.00 at Train Shows and even less on e bay.

checkout trainworld.com. Of course only you can really answer this question. Is it decorated for a prototype that just isn’t available anywhere? Then it might be an ok price, but if roadname doesn’t matter, it seems way high to me.

Floyd2589,

Trainworld has them for $50. Here’s the direct link to their Proto 2000 stuff: http://www.trainworld1.com/lifelike/lifelike_proto.htm

Trainworld is a very good company to deal with but don’t expect them to be able to answer any technical questions you might have. You’ll need to e-mail them to find out if they have the particular road you are looking for. Trainworld is also pretty fast on their shipping. From the time I ordered my Proto 2000 S1 switcher, to the time I had it in my hands? 4 days.

Tom

ok thanks for your help everybody I’ll keep an eye out at train shows. Floyd

It really depends on the manufacturer and the quality. That might even be low to some. I know if it were a BLI, its price would be sky-high. Since SD9s are becoming extinct, prices will probably be lowering on them. Otherwise, I say it’s a good deal!![swg][:P]
