today i was watching trains and a police officer wrote down my name and address and asked me to leave because i was a bit close to the tracks. This is my first time and im 15, how much trouble am i in exactly? will my name be put into the system or somthing?
I don’t think you be in much trouble. He was problely just worried that you was to close. If he just wrote your name in his note book I doubt he will even put it in his daily report.
Just stay back and on public property and you should have any more trouble. You would only get put in a system some where if you where arrested or ticketed for breaking a law or where being investigated for a crime.
I’m not a law student or anything but I would think you are going to be in any additional trouble. If you are then the officer should have done it right then and there. He may have just taken your name and address to do a background check and to have your name in case you do something in the future. I wouldn’t sweat about it. Just remember what he said to you and keep a good distance. Don’t let it stop you from watching trains just be mindful of where you are at as to the railroad’s property.

The answer is I don’t think you are in any trouble. There are two issues though. One of course is the safety issue, but the other is the railroad paranoia issue. You aren’t a terrorist or even a vandal are you? Just trying to be a railfan, right? I’m 43 and have been stopped a couple of times in the last 6 months. Don’t worry about it, but be careful. Who did the cop represent? Local police, railroad, county?

Don’t worry about it. If anything, law enforcement is concerned about acts of terrorism and vandalism.
