My uncle gave me a set when I was 12. But my real start was when I
was 13 . I mounted some tracks and had a very primitive loop of track.
Have not looked back since. Times have changed and the layouts gotten
MUCH BIGGER. Funny, THIS IS MY 20th Year in model railroading !!!
My first train was in 1963. I was 5 and got a Lionel outfit. In 1967, I got an AHM HO outfit and modeled in HO throughout my teens.
1948, I was 9. This hobby has carried me thru some great times and not so great times, but as time goes by u tend to remember the positives.
I got my first train set when I was about seven or eight (a Kellogg’s train that I got
by saving cereal box tops). It got used and abused and put away somewhere. Then
came my teen years… Girls, partying, girls, partying, girls…well, you see the pattern.
Needless to say, trains took a backseat to other “hobbies”. These “hobbies” lasted
through my twenties, along with work. Now that I’m in my thirties and have settled
down considerably, I now have the time and money to really enjoy my trains. I still
haven’t built “the layout” yet. That will come in time. For now my small layout
keeps me busy and is sharpening the skills I’ll need for my ultimate layout… oneday.

I grew up by a small yard and my grand mothers brother would take me on train rides when I was around 10 also my next door neighbor had an HO set up I would check out from time to time. I didnt start my own layout until I was 27.
