I don’t simulate break tests. When I operate with my eight year old one of us stands at the controls while the other throws the switches. We don’t throw the switch until the train arrives at that point which is realistic.
I leave a little time at like station stops for passenger…but rarely when switching.
nope none of them.
Since I have a locomotive outfited with sound I can simulate all of these, just press the right function key. On the clubs layout when I bring a train headed by It up to summit, I stop, perform a “Brake test” (Activating the related sounds on my cab) Turn on the dynamics and keep the train at a slow speedstep when I head down the hill. It’s fun and takes away from the montomny of just running in circles.
I will stop just long enough to throw a switch,or flip the direction switch on my power pack. Then I’m off again.
I wait for a while. How long would it take to perform these various actions?
Depends. Brake test, depends on how many cars say 20 would prolly take 10 minutes, id just sit for 30 seconds or so, or if you have something to do, like throw away something , do it then. Air hoses are like so " WC transfer, In between, Engineer: Set and center, then the conductor say in the clear and you pull away. So just wait 30 to 20 seconds for some of em to add to the realism.

I take the air test time to sort out all my waybills, I for some reason drop them on the floor a lot. Glad I don’t actually try to run a real train, I would probably have them blow out the window.
Well, it does help to be in the privacy of your own home. Maybe those sound equipped locos aren`t such a bad thing.
I guess which type of break you want to test! [;)]
I’m always testing my breaks. Just ask my boss.
Now, my other brakes, that’s a different matter. I don’t like testing them as they slow me down!

Does predominantly european street traffic count as realistic? I have more Beamers, VW’s, and benzes than I can count. But seriously, I just build a train that I think would be realistic, such as this one-
1 GP or SD loco
2-5 boxcars
1 flat car
1 tank car
Various other cars (auto racks, well cars)
The cars are arranged so that they look like they came from different places, not just all the Boxcars together and such.
The layout can only handle 2 or 3 seven car trains or else it will look sort of funny.
