I continue to have problems inserting active links to the forum. I’m using Firefox 16. I never had this happen w/ IE7/8. The Internet Explorer just works like crap on my PC so I use the Firefox 90% of the time.
The copy and paste just doesn’t provide an active link, any help wpould be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Also, I’m a real newby at posting videos. I get an active Utube link but how do you post that paused box of the video w/ the play arrow. My first attempt was the video of the elevator in Layouts and Layout building We’re getting too old for duckunders.
Mark a word in your text that you would like to have linked with the page you want to show. Now click on the icon that looks like a chain. You can paste the page info into the books that now opens up. That´s all.
Ulrich, I really feel lost. How does this work by “marking” and then Copy and Paste? I don’t know what Icon (chain looking) you mean. If I have something “highlighted” clicking on anything else looses the highlighting. Rt click/ left click, what box opens? Firefox is so much better than IE8, but I can’t figure out why a simple copy and paste won’t highlight an active link.
Look at the toolbar at the top of the reply box. There are two rows of icons. In the bottom row there’s an icon that looks like chain links.
Copy the link that you want to link to. Position the mouse pointer on the word(s) that you want to apply the link to. Press and hold down the left mouse button and drag the pointer across the word(s) to highlight them. Release the button. The link icon will now be visible. Click it. An Insert/Edit Link dialog box will open. In the first line (Link URL) delete the text that’s there then right click and paste the link you copied earlier. Go to the bottom of the box and click Insert.
You backspace to highlight your key word HERE, click the “chain link” emblem, PASTE in the Long UR in the window that pops up, and PRESTO CHANGEO you are done!
You can also get away with just copying a URL and just pasting it in your reply window without a “marker word” and hit enter, it will highlight the link and people will be able to click on it.
This last method is browser dependent. here is a URL http://broadwaylion.com and it may or may not work depending on what browser you are using. Some browsers will recognize this as a URL and will make it “clickable” others just treat it as plain text and it will not be clickable. When you use the link (chain) icon above the forum embeds the link as a link and it will always be clickable. Here it is again: http://broadwaylion.com and this time I used the link icon to make it a link. Some browsers will be able to click on both links others will not.
I am using Firefox 17.0, and the first instance is not clickable as a link although I have added a helper to my Firefox program so that if I right click on these words, it will ask if I want to open it as a URL.
